Kankakee Fish & Wildlife Area
Kankakee Fish & Wildlife Area, located at 4320 West Toto Road in North Judson, Indiana, is a beautiful park and tourist attraction that offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. The 4,199-acre property includes open water, marshes, riparian timber, periodically flooded crop fields, and 11 miles of river, providing a diverse habitat for wildlife. The area was once part of the Kankakee Grand Marsh, a vast wetland that was largely drained for agricultural use in the late 1800s. In 1923, the State purchased a portion of the remaining marsh for a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, which later became a game preserve. Waterfowl management efforts began in the 1950s, and the property has since been expanded through land acquisitions in 1982, 1992, and 2010.
Fred & Dorothy Meyer Nature Preserve
Fred & Dorothy Meyer Nature Preserve, located at Observatory Road in Martinsville, Indiana, is a stunning park and tourist attraction that is part of the Long Ridge conservation area. Visitors can enjoy a dramatic hike through steep slopes, ridges, and valleys in a large forest block that is unbroken by roads. The forest interior habitat is home to rare native species such as hooded and worm-eating warblers, Eastern box turtle, and the state-endangered cerulean warbler. The preserve features plants that are characteristic of the acidic, sharply drained soil of the ridges, including chestnut oak, black oak, pignut hickory, greenbriar, and star chickweed. In the protected ravines, visitors can find American beech, red oak, white ash, painted sedge, yellow trout lily, and bloodroot. This special property was made possible by a generous donation from Bob Meyer and his family, with additional support from the Indiana Heritage Trust. The preserve is dedicated to Fred Meyer, who played a key role in establishing the state's first dedicated nature preserve in 1969. The original 14 acres known as Shalom Woods was donated by the Cohen family in the 1990s.

Switchyard Dog Park
Switchyard Dog Park is a spacious and safe haven for dogs to play and socialize in Bloomington, Indiana. With two fenced areas totaling 4.7 acres, there is plenty of room for dogs of all sizes to run and have fun. The small dog area is perfect for dogs weighing 40lbs and less, while the larger dog area is ideal for bigger pups. Located on the south side of Switchyard Park, this dog park requires dogs to be spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and at least four months old. Best of all, there is no admission fee to enjoy this park! For maintenance needs or other issues, contact the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. The closest parking lot is the Rogers Street lot, just a short walk away from the dog park. In case of emergencies, contact 911 or the Bloomington Police Department. Any incidents of abuse, misconduct, or dog fights should be reported to Bloomington Animal Care and Control.
