The forest was donated to the State of Indiana by Stella Selmier in honor of her late husband, Frank, who had a passion for the outdoors. The property features a variety of tree species planted by Frank Selmier from 1921 to 1934, including pine, black locust, black walnut, sycamore, and tulip trees. Most of the land was placed in Indiana’s Classified Forest Program before becoming state land in 1944.
