High Knob Campground is a picturesque retreat nestled within the stunning Shawnee National Forest in Equality, Illinois. Spread over 50 acres, our campground offers 165 campsites, including both permanent and tourist sites equipped with water and electricity. Open year-round, we cater to mule and horse riders, with the unique feature of the River to River trail running through the center of camp. Surrounded by forest on three sides, High Knob Campground is the gateway to seven separate trails leading into the Shawnee National Forest. Within a short horseback ride, guests can explore 100ft tall rock bluffs. For outdoor enthusiasts, the High Knob area offers the best in trail riding, hiking, and hunting, with nearby attractions such as Garden of the Gods wilderness area.

Named after astronaut Neil Armstrong, the park features various amenities such as lighted ball fields, playgrounds, an in-line skate rink, sand volleyball and basketball courts. Visitors can explore the historic Gretna Station and Caboose, walk the trails around the reservoir to Lake George and Balog Island, home to a colony of Purple Martins. The park also offers picnic shelters, baseball fields, restroom facilities, a roller hockey rink, and a sled hill. Due to construction, the picnic shelter is currently not available for rent. However, visitors can still enjoy the many recreational activities and facilities at Armstrong Park. The park is also known for its KidsWorld playground, which was redesigned in 2016 to retain its original charm and features. Additionally, the park is home to a colony of Purple Martins and historical landmarks such as the Gretna Station and Caboose.
Arndt Park
Arndt Park is a popular park located at 1990 White Street in Des Plaines, Illinois. Just five blocks south of Oakton Street, this park offers a variety of recreational activities for visitors of all ages. During the winter season, visitors can enjoy a sled/snowboard hill that will be available for use in Winter 2022/23. In addition to the park amenities, Arndt Park is also home to the Administrative & Leisure Center, Golf Center Des Plaines, Lake Park Golf Course & Marina, Mountain View Adventure Center, Prairie Lakes Aquatic Center, and Prairie Lakes Community Center. These facilities offer a range of activities and services for the community, including golfing, water sports, and fitness classes.
