PetSafe Carbondale Community Dog Park
The PetSafe Carbondale Community Dog Park is a wonderful public park located at 2500 West Sunset Drive in Carbondale, Illinois. Managed by the Carbondale Park District, this park was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks (FCDP), a non-profit organization formed by volunteers. Opened in the Spring of 2022, this dog park is a great place for dogs and their owners to socialize and play in a safe and secure environment. Thanks to the generous support of the Carbondale community, the park features fencing and gates funded by donations and a $25,000 grant from PetSafe. Located next to the Life Community Center, the PetSafe Carbondale Community Dog Park is a testament to the power of community collaboration. SIU Craft Shop
The SIU Craft Shop, located at 1255 Lincoln Drive in Carbondale, Illinois, is a creative art and craft space open to SIU students, faculty, staff, and the southern Illinois community. The shop offers workshops, private lessons, volunteer opportunities, and community service opportunities in a variety of artistic mediums including ceramics, crafts, painting, drawing, jewelry, and more. Additionally, the Craft Shop is home to Saluki Spokes, a bike repair shop with basic materials and tools available for checkout. Group activities such as birthday parties, field trips, and Scout programs are also available. Registration can be done by phone, email, or in person at the Student Center Craft Shop. The Craft Shop accepts major credit cards, checks, Debit Dawg, and cash. Private lessons are also available in various workshop areas. The shop is open to individuals aged 5 and up, with children under 12 requiring adult supervision. The facility is handicap accessible and offers a range of activities for both adults and children, with workshops and private lessons available throughout the year. The Craft Shop also has a frame shop for custom framing needs and a Birdhouse Factory that provides volunteer opportunities to help endangered bird species. The shop operates under the mission of promoting kindness through its Random Token of Kindness program, where volunteers create clay coins to distribute as rewards for acts of kindness. Overall, the SIU Craft Shop is a vibrant and inclusive space for art and creativity in the community.
