Old Leyden House Columns
β OpenThe Old Leyden House Columns, located at 149 Peachtree Circle Northeast in Atlanta, Georgia, are a rare and historic artifact dating back to before the Civil War. These 12 Ionic columns were originally part of the Leyden House, a prominent residence designed by John Boutell in 1858. Despite the house being demolished in 1913, the columns have remained as a link to Atlanta's past. With connections to figures such as Margaret Mitchell, Asa Candler, and Civil War generals, the columns have a rich history. Confederate General John B. Hood and Union Major General George Thomas both had ties to the Leyden House, and Margaret Mitchell even mentioned it in her novel, "Gone with the Wind."
