Old Leyden House Columns
About the Business
The Old Leyden House Columns, located at 149 Peachtree Circle Northeast in Atlanta, Georgia, are a rare and historic artifact dating back to before the Civil War. These 12 Ionic columns were originally part of the Leyden House, a prominent residence designed by John Boutell in 1858. Despite the house being demolished in 1913, the columns have remained as a link to Atlanta's past.
With connections to figures such as Margaret Mitchell, Asa Candler, and Civil War generals, the columns have a rich history. Confederate General John B. Hood and Union Major General George Thomas both had ties to the Leyden House, and Margaret Mitchell even mentioned it in her novel, "Gone with the Wind."
Today, the columns stand in front of the Peachtree Circle Apartments, originally built as the Woodberry Hall School for Girls in 1914. Miss Rosa Woodberry, a noted educator, founded the school and the columns were secured for the building by Asa Candler, the founder of Coca-Cola.
The columns are a testament to Atlanta's history and are a must-see for those interested in the city's past. As one of the few remaining structures from pre-Civil War Atlanta, the Leyden House Columns are truly magnificent.

"This is a rental apartment complex nowadays.Back in the time it was Woodberry Hall Girl's School. It's huge white columns were brought from Old Leyden House. So, it is a historical building at the heart of Midtown,Atlanta."
"Do not move there unless you’re into things like never ending “charm” of construction, waking up to a leaf blower at 7.40 by your windows or soothing sounds of breaking pipes between 3-6 am. This building hasn't experienced silence in 2 years and you won’t either. Update : Its actually been 3 years of construction now."
