About the Business

Welcome to Anderson Mound at Jungle Prada Park, a captivating historical site nestled in the heart of St. Petersburg, Florida. Our Jungle Prada History Tour invites you to embark on a journey through 1,000 years of Florida’s rich past, right where the Tocobaga Indian village thrived for six centuries. This remarkable waterfront location is home to one of the best-preserved American Indian mounds in the state, offering a unique glimpse into the lives and culture of its original inhabitants.
In addition to its Indigenous significance, the Jungle Prada Site is famously recognized as the landing place of Pánfilo de Narváez in 1528. Discover the enthralling tale of his ill-fated expedition and the incredible survival journey led by Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, spanning from Florida to the Pacific Ocean over eight years.
Our 75-90 minute tours, ranked #13 in “Cultural & Historical Tours” in the United States by TripAdvisor, are led by knowledgeable historians who bring these stories to life. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore our small on-site museum, featuring fascinating archaeological artifacts. Tours are available Wednesday through Sunday, with varying times and availability depending on the season. Advance registration is required due to limited group sizes, so be sure to check our calendar and reserve your spot today!
While visiting, enjoy the vibrant presence of our resident peacocks, a colorful hallmark of the Jungle Prada neighborhood since the 1950s. These majestic birds can be seen strutting through our private seaside garden, adding a touch of natural beauty to your historical exploration.
Please be aware that due to the historic nature of the property, some surfaces are uneven. We advise all guests to exercise caution and watch their step. We also offer free cancellation until the start of the tour for tickets purchased through our website.

"Really fun and interesting tour. I really enjoyed it. David is a great host and guide, with a lot of stories and facts to share. 99% of tour is in the shade, so it is great to do it any time of the year. Although, March is peacock mating season, and there is big chance to see them in their full glory. And views of Boca Ciega are gorgeous! Thank hou David for great time, will be back for sure"
"A very interesting and informative tour! An incredibly well-informed tour guide tells the history of the Indigenous peoples who once lived on his family’s sacred land, as well as some history of conquistadores and settlers of the area. The property is very well maintained. I feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon this treasure!!"
"This was one of the most fascinating tours we have been on. It’s a history tour of Florida combined with a botanical tour and the peacocks are amazing! It was obvious they are recovering from the last two tropical storms which is sad, but David was so knowledgeable and we learned so much. I would not recommend for young children, but definitely middle school age and older."
"The tour was worth the price. It was hot and humid at 1130am on July 6, but David, the tour guide provided bug spray, paper fans, and lots of information about his family's property, i.e. the Jungle Prada. He told us about the local history as we enjoyed beautiful views of Boca Ciega Bay from the grounds. He explained about the plants his grandmother planted and about the flocks of peafowl that live on the property. He imparted info about the people that lived there hundreds of years before European settlers that created the well preserved midden that makes up the largest part of their property and the artifacts his family and archeologists have found therein. I bought a couple of peacock feathers for my cats, a few books about the history of the area, and plan to go back for another tour and for yoga, music, and other activities hosted by the Sacred Grounds group there."
"A peaceful park and burial mound set just off of park street. Right on Boca ciega Bay there are park benches near by to have a quiet lunch at. To the South of the parking lot is a place offering tours twice a day wed through sat."
