Dimitri's on the Water

"Whenever I am in FL visiting my father, we go to Dimitri’s so he can have his smelt and I can have a gyro. It has always been a great experience and fantastic food. Tonight we went and ordered our usual, plus drinks and dessert to go. His smelt were great but we thought it odd that he also had calamari in with the smelt….he’s not a fan of calamari. He also had the lemon potatoes that were really good. I had the rosemary chickpeas with my gyro and it was my first time having them…they were great. The gyro was less than mediocre….which is so unusual. I kept smelling something “off” and kept asking my dad if his smelt were good. Then after taking a few bites of my gyro, I realized the smell was coming from that. The smell reminded me of rancid oil. The tomato, onion and tsaziki sauce seemed to taste fine….so I couldn’t place whether it was the meat, oil or the pita. Regardless, I only had a few bites and just finished my chickpeas, which were amazing. Also, we’re home now and my stomach is churning. I’m definitely not feeling well and am certain the gyro is not agreeing with me. Because of the way I’m feeling right now, my brain is saying ‘we’re never going back there’, but it’s always been a favorite place of ours. Maybe it’s time to visit some other restaurants in Tarpon Springs…"

"The good: very relaxing and scenic seating outdoors on the walkway over the water. The bread and seasoned olive oil is fantastic. Wait staff was very attentive. The less than good: soft drinks no carbonation, shrimp with crab wrapped in bacon was disgusting as the bacon was raw (except for the outside layer) and not chewable. The other entrees were just OK. Certainly was expecting better."

"The food was great. Super service. Great staff. On the water. Great outside seating. Parking can be diffucult. Get a "sandwich" & a side is cheaper than a platter. Lil dark to read menu. Our server was really goid & did everything we asked."

"The food here is amazing! Everything was super fresh and flavorful! My friends and I ordered Saganaki (we asked for pita with it), Skordalia with fried zucchini and eggplant. My entree was Calamari and it was perfectly cooked, not chewy. However, the service left a lot to be desired. None of our food was timed right. We had taken a couple bites of the appetizers and then our salads came out. Probably not even 5 minutes later our entrees arrived and we ran out of room on the table. To the point where my friends were handing back their salads just because there was no room to eat it. So be prepared that the food here comes out super fast! Then when it came time to pay, the waiter lost my credit card when he brought the receipt back. I was looking everywhere around our table in case it had fallen out. We told the waiter and he went looking for it, thankfully someone had turned it in at the front and he handed me my card. The waiter did not seem to care that this happened. Now, would I go back? Probably. The food was amazing, but I'll probably just pay with cash next time."

"We had the mahi-blackened (fire!), the pickled octopus, the village salad and I had a word sangria. We sat at the bar and the service was amazing! Our bartender was David and he was awesome! Everything was so good!"
