Robinson Rose House
β OpenThe Robinson Rose House, located at 4098 Mason Street in San Diego, California, is a historical institution with a rich past. Originally built in 1853 by James W. Robinson, a prominent figure in the town's development, the house served as a residence and law office. Over the years, it has been used for various purposes including as a jail cell, schoolroom, newspaper office, store, and County Clerk's office. In 1868, the property was sold to Louis Rose, a German Jewish entrepreneur, who continued to maintain the building's historical significance. Despite being demolished around 1900, the house was reconstructed by California State Parks in 1989 and now serves as a visitor information center. The center includes a diorama of Old Town San Diego as it would have appeared in 1872, providing visitors with a glimpse into the past.
