Welcome to South Cumminsville Community Garden

Nestled in the heart of Cincinnati at 3621 Roll Avenue, the South Cumminsville Community Garden (SCCG) is more than just a park—it's a vibrant hub for community growth and well-being. Established seven years ago, SCCG was created to transform vacant residential land into a flourishing space that provides fresh, healthy food, fosters community connections, and enhances the beauty of the neighborhood.

Our garden addresses critical issues such as food insecurity and health by offering free access to fresh produce, which helps low-income families stretch their budgets and encourages healthy eating habits from a young age. Gardening also promotes physical activity and a sense of ownership within the community, where the spirit of togetherness thrives.

In response to soil tests revealing elevated lead levels, our dedicated community, led by Susan Jorgensen, WIN’s Fresh Food Access Coordinator | AmeriCorps VISTA, took swift action. With support from the Civic Garden Center, Tim Canady, and Groundwork Cincinnati Mill Creek, we constructed thirteen raised beds to ensure safe gardening practices.

SCCG benefits both individual gardeners and the wider community. Gardeners enjoy low-cost, easily accessible produce, while the neighborhood as a whole can harvest from our eighteen community fruit trees, offering a healthy food source to all residents. Our South Cumminsville Summer Youth Enrichment Program invites children and youth to participate in the garden, allowing them to share the fruits of their labor with their families.
