"Nice venue for an outdoor gathering. Can be rented through the City if Greenville, Park Dept. Has electric & a restroom."
"This is a small replica fort dedicated to the much larger original Fort Greene Ville. It is located on the same grounds as the historic Water Street Cemetery. This is a public park, but the inside of the fort itself is rarely open to visitors. The local Boy Scouts used to use it when I was a kid, but now the gates are usually locked. The original Fort Greene Ville was founded in 1793 by General Anthony Wayne, a Revolutionary War leader who was appointed Commander in Chief of the U.S. Army by President George Washington. At over 55 acres, it was the largest wooden fort ever constructed at the time. Gen. Wayne named the fort for his fellow Revolutionary War general, Nathanael Greene. The fort was the site of the signing of the Treaty of Greenville on August 3, 1795, which effectively ended the Northwest Indian Wars, opening up the area to settlers, and paving the way to Ohio becoming a state in 1803."
"Unlike Fort Recovery down the road a ways, here there is a reconstruction of the fort. It shows how small the fort was to be so instrumental in the history of both the Native Americans and the, by then, American army."
"If you are A HISTORY buff check it out. When you stand in front of the fort close your eyes and think 100 years ago you were in the middle of nowhere. All you would see would be a soldier or cowboy on a horse or maybe even an Indian on a horse."
"It is a beautiful fort, but I was there on a day that it was not open."
