"My husband and I have had property for over 15 years and when the time was right for us to finally build our dream home we could not find a builder. Friends in the area were in the process of building and recommended America’s Home Place. The initial process was a little frustrating. We chose a plan and at our first appointment, we discussed what we were looking for. It took over a week to get the quote then the sticker shock had us reconsidering giving up on our home all together. We were disappointed in the take it or leave it attitude we received but then again there was no high pressure salesperson breathing down our necks either. After we nixed a few things and went with another plan we were able to get our dream within our budget. We did not like how much excavation was going to cost and AHP charged an additional 18% of the excavation cost to work with their excavator. We told them we couldn’t justify that and they said they would work with an outside excavator of our choosing. Whew! We worked with Kathy for color selections, cabinets, floors, and counter tops, she was very patient with us. Kathy was also very gracious and helpful when I would call later because we changed our minds on something or wanted to add windows. We had several change orders after the final plans were drawn and we were never charged a fee for making those changes. Once all the financing and the final plans were set, we broke ground. One thing we were expecting, probably because of fixer upper tv shows, that AHP does not offer, was a virtual walk through after the final plans were completed. That would have really helped us to visualize what everything was going to look like a head of time and to gauge the size of the rooms better. We would have made a few upgrades with the master bathroom had we been able to see a full 3D view prior to ground breaking. We were introduced to our project manager, Andrew, who we cannot say enough good things about. We lived 9 hours away and could not be there very often and he was wonderful with explaining every step and communicating updates. One thing AHP did not do as a standard practice was insulate/sound proof between interior walls and the ceiling, Andrew suggested we install rock wool ourselves before they installed the drywall. We are so glad he suggested that. It was easy to do and so worth it. We would get updates from Andrew several times a week with pictures of the progress. Because Andrew would explain every step of the process, we never felt like we had to micro manage anything. From start to finish was almost 8 months. We love our new home. We are extremely satisfied with the quality of the materials and how structurally sound our home is."
