"I have traveled extensively during my lifetime. Ive seen all 50 states, visited western Europe to say hello to Divinci and gaze into the glass pyramid at dusk that's lit softly by the lights of the Lourve below, ate chicken (aka goat) next to a wild elephant in Ghana and walked in the canopy of Mexico's lush rainforest. Ive been privileged enough to see sights of such beauty they literally leave you dumbfounded with wonder and awe. Even after all I've seen, today i still count the view from the old, broken Sauerheber bridge in my top ten list of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Stopping here is a must if you happen to be in the area and nature is your jam. The first time I saw this view, I couldn't believe it! The rising full moon shimmered on the top of the water in between a field of fragrant lilypads in bloom that stretched as far off in the creek as you could see. In daylight, peeking into the mostly clear water will reward you with looks at fish so big they star in every fisherman's dream, plus a look-see at the occasional reptile, amphibian, and more birds than you knew existed. This spot is super easy to locate and is one of the first stopping points as you drive into the Sauerheber WMA Unit on 138. There is no hiking involved as the creek parallels the highway at a distance of about 40 feet. A good portion of the old concrete bridge still remains intact over the water and is sturdy and safe enough to walk on or even have a picnic on (just dont forget the insect repellent!!). Unfortunately, the fisherman will have to let this fish rich spot remain a dream and move on down the road for their catch; the lilypads are so thick on the water that it makes it virtually impossible to fish in any traditional manner. Lines would remain endlessly tangled, as would even the smallest net. They provide the perfect cover for the aquatic life below to remain safe and thrive. If you do pay the bridge a visit, please keep in mind that this is a protected area that is one small part of an interconnected and fragile ecosystem of wetlands, so please remember to take everything you bring to the site (food, blankets, trash, etc.) back out with you when you leave so that everyone else can have the same blemish free experience."
"Great place to watch ducks and other wildlife. I just wish they would work on the duck season draws a little to make it more fair. Seems like the same people get drawn everytime."
"I love this place!!"
"Perfect place to explore raw nature. Best time to kayak is spring and fall (very green and overgrown in summer). Great spot for birding kayaking and seasonal hunting. Multiple observation decks along the road. Signage is sparse, but views are worth it. Would recommend a SUV or truck to access gravel roads during wet season."
"Love it in the bottoms. Had alot of fun and a couple close calls of dying. My favorite place"
