Video/audio ports has been installed in our home for cameras and speakers before the home had been painted. Nothing was covered and the paint burnt out the ports in our device. A simple check-list item that could have prevented something so frustrating to deal with."

"We haven't broke ground yet, but I was compelled to write a review of our experience so far since I am someone who relies on reviews to help make informed decisions. After researching custom builders, semi-custom builders and modular homes, my husband and I decided to pursue using Schaeffer Homes BOYL to build us our forever home with our 2 children. A friend had recently built with them and loved his home, and we knew we didn't want to wait 2+ years to build like most custom builders and even modular homes can take. They also had floorplans in our budget that were also customizable and BEAUTIFUL. I started out talking to Keith, Sales Manager. If it wasn't for Keith right off the bat, we may have considered going the modular route. He is the least "salesiest" sales manager you will ever meet. We loved his laid back nature. He explained everything with knowledge and detail. He was never ever pushy, and was always willing to answer questions (even on his days off) BEFORE we even signed with them. In fact, I think we bombarded Keith with questions for 2 months before finalizing our decision to use them. He was patient and prompt with answering all questions. He outlines exactly what we should expect in the process (step by step), and made the first steps a delightful breeze. After working we Keith, signing and finalizing our home structural plans, he transferred our care to Christie (Director of Sales and Marketing) for a kick off meeting that is SO helpful in laying out the next steps and Ashley (Design Manager) for 3 design meetings. We recently finalized our selections of our Newport home with Ashley, and the experience couldn't have gone better. She is sweet, patient, thorough, prompt, and always pleasant. She answers emails and all calls with such enthusiasm and that is something that is really important to me. When using Schaeffer homes, you have to make ALL of your home selections down to how many outlets you want in a room before ordering house plans or starting your mortgage application. This can be very overwhelming for some. Its a lot of decision making in a very short amount of time. Despite the time line, I never felt pressured by Ashley. I changed my mind several times about various things and she never made me feel like a nuisance. I inquired about pricing for several products or changes, and she went above and beyond to get me the most accurate information before we had to finalize anything. I also loved that despite being a "semi custom" builder, I was able to fully customize my kitchen-- removing a pantry, adding custom floor to ceiling cabinets, expanding the island to an oversize island and picking and choosing how many drawers vs cabinets i wanted) So far, we are very happy with Schaeffer Homes and their team (including James, our land specialist who handles the home site inspection costs). Yes, we have experienced stress involved in this home building process (who doesn't?), but they have such a tremendous dedication to communication that if at any time things get confusing, they will take the time iron out any concerns. We are really looking forward to seeing what the next steps bring! I will write an honest final review after getting through the next steps and make settlement :-)"

"I'd give this place NO Stars if I could. Called in and spoke to Ashley about building. Wife and I just retired and sold our home so we are cash buyers but with a definite budget cap. I was VERY clear the cap was a hard one with no flexibility. She said "it's tight but we can do it". Alright. Let's take next steps... Website said "Call us about OUR Lots".. Great! Because I know up front anyplace I want to build the lots on open offer wreck my budget and project is over before it starts. I tell Ashley via e-mail I can't afford open market Lots and still have enough to prep and build it but if Schaffer has lots they own they are parceling out that meet my budget I very much want to get started. Can you just tell me where these lots are because you can't move land. If I don't want to live there why waste your or my time? Then the Dance starts. "Well Our Process doesn't allow us to discuss land before the Consultation" Seriously? Multiple e-mails, ultimately I had to threaten to cancel the appointment and get her on the phone. More dancing and dodging and verbal gymnastics ensue before she eventually admits you have NO lots what so ever, that "Your Lots" is just handing me over to a Realtor (I have one of those and told her so at the beginning of this) where indeed it's the reality a budget busting price is going rate anywhere I want to build. At the very beginning I asked sincerely if you cannot meet my budget please tell me so, I understand. I spoke to 5 builders who told me they couldn't. One who said he could if I can find a lot. I wanted to look at your company seriously when Ashley informed me you too could meet my budget despite current land prices and availability. Instead of just parting friends by being honest up front she has ensured I will NEVER do business with your company no matter how cheap land gets down the road or what you lower prices to. And you can bet I'll bad mouth you to anyone who asks. Don't run your business like a long con. Anytime you refuse to answer a pertinent question because "we have to follow the process" you come off like timeshare salesmen not serious builders and business persons. And yes.. I was quite rude to her just before hanging up the phone. Up until then I was quite polite. After all she wasted hours of my time digging around trying to get a simple answer to a very simple question. Who does that and expects to succeed in sales or life?"

"It was a nice experience working with Scheaffer Builders, from day 1 to last day we were super excited and our house came out beautiful. Looking at our house from a pile of dirt into a huge house is amazing. What I love about my house is beautiful windows and doors. I got over charged to select this elevation so that neigbour houses will not look cookie cutter but ending up seeing our neighbours chose same elevations and we got refused to take that selction, that really upsets me, and couple of things that we were not told that the extendtion could be made, with I totally regret, But overall things went well. Everyone is very professional and know their job, specially Kristie Redner, she knows everything. Love me house, my happy place."

"Excellent builder with top notch staff. Our house is not quite complete yet, but so far we are pleased with the overall experience. Our first good experience started with Ashley in Sales. She is professional and thorough. We built on our own lot. Schaeffer has a build on your own lot program that is clearly defined and easy to understand. The land professional Josh is excellent to work with and helpful. Our project manager Eric has a great deal of experience, and is responsive to questions. Building a house is a big deal to us, and we feel that we have picked the right builder."
