"Visit the beautiful Butterfly Garden that was originally established in 1984 as probably the first butterfly garden in the State of Iowa. The garden is maintained by volunteers each year. The Garden is located at Bellevue State Park Nelson Unit which also has a Nature Center and wonderful lookout over Lock 12 on the Mississippi River. Hiking trails take you around the hillside and connect with Felderman Park in beautiful Bellevue, Iowa. 2 miles south of the Nelson Unit, you can find a wonderful camping opportunity and more trails at the Dyas Unit. Check out Bellevue State Park, IA for more information."
"You should visit! So much work has gone into revitalizing this outdoor butterfly garden and its beautiful! You don't see it when you first park, walk down the grassy path and you'll see it! So many flowers in bloom! I only saw a couple of butterflies when I was there but the flowers were worth the stop! One of the volunteers was working in the garden and was so friendly! She told us some of the history of the garden. Truly a gem!"
"We took our kids here this afternoon. The Naturalist came by while we were watching the frogs & tadpoles. She grabbed some nets & containers so she could help our toddler catch & identify pond critters. It was a great experience & we can’t wait to come back."
"Always love visiting the butterfly garden. Our daughter loves exploring for frogs and tadpoles and the flowers are gorgeous. Our dogs also enjoy walking the path; paved or prairie."
"Beautiful. Walked the road to the "Point of Interest". Pretty good incline to the top but well worth it for the view. Also enjoyed stopping to see Butterfly Garden & Playground. Didn't go into Nature Center or Lodge though. There was a few shelter areas as well as some scattered picnic tables up near the playground. A one stall unisex restroom was available next to playground. Lastly, you go out the same way you came in."
