About the Business
Welcome to the Amesbury Friends Meeting House, a cherished place of worship located at 120 Friend Street, Amesbury, Massachusetts. Rooted in the Quaker tradition, our Meeting House is a welcoming sanctuary for all individuals, couples, and families who seek a spiritual community filled with love, acceptance, and shared values.
As a community, we embrace the profound Quaker belief that "there is that of God in everyone," a guiding principle expressed by George Fox in the 17th century. We invite all to join us in worship, where everyone is encouraged to share, participate in decisions, and contribute to the nurturing of our inclusive and loving environment.
We prioritize the health and safety of our attendees and encourage everyone to be vaccinated. We kindly ask that you respect the personal boundaries of those who wish to maintain distance, both indoors and outdoors, and practice good hygiene by washing your hands frequently or using hand sanitizer.
Our Meeting House is wheelchair accessible and equipped with an assistive listening system to ensure that everyone can fully participate in our gatherings. All are welcome to attend our monthly Meeting for Worship for Business, where every voice is heard. These meetings are typically held on the third Sunday of each month, except in August and December, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Please join our announcement list by emailing clerk [at] amesburyquakers.org to stay informed about these and other important events.
We believe in working collectively towards social justice and change, inspired by the rich history of Quaker activism, including the work of poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier, who was deeply influenced by his Quaker faith. Our Meeting House was proudly featured in the Amesbury Historic Sites Tour during the city's 350th Birthday Celebration, where we shared our history and the spiritual life of Quakers with hundreds of visitors.
As a community, we rely on the financial support of individuals and families to sustain our mission and activities. We are grateful for the support we receive, which helps us continue our work in promoting peace, justice, and community.
Join us at the Amesbury Friends Meeting House, where all are welcome to explore their spirituality and be part of a community that values honesty, integrity, and mutual respect.

"I made sure to stop at this 1851 Friends Meeting House when I visited Amesbury. I appreciate the sign's mention of their most famous former member, abolitionist poet John Greenleaf Whittier. The building and grounds are excellently maintained."
"Very friendly and loving community. About 40 people need to mask up. Zoom meetings on Sunday at 10 am."
"Beautiful building full of lovely people"
"Amesbury Friends Meeting is a welcoming place. Being part of this group fills my spirit and my heart. We are a group of diverse thinkers who really listen to each other. In the quiet space of Silent Meeting, I find refreshment from the world and inspiration for the coming week."
