Located at 539 G Street, Eureka, California, the Humboldt Literacy Project is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to empowering adults through literacy. Since 1981, we have been passionately working to raise the literacy levels in Humboldt County, aiming to improve the quality of life for our community members.

At Humboldt Literacy Project, we connect adults aged 18 and over, who wish to enhance their reading and writing skills, with volunteer tutors. Our services are free, confidential, and conducted one-on-one, ensuring personalized attention and support. Whether you're looking to improve your reading and writing or learn English, our dedicated tutors are here to help.

In Humboldt County, approximately 13,800 adults are functionally illiterate, reading below a fifth-grade level, and another 23,000 read below an eighth-grade level. Recognizing this challenge, we strive to make a difference by pairing passionate volunteers with learners who are eager to improve their literacy skills.

We believe that literacy is a fundamental skill that can transform lives.
