About the Business
Welcome to the Ruth Bach Public Library, a cherished community hub located at 4055 North Bellflower Boulevard, Long Beach, California. Established in February 1958, this library was named in honor of Ruth Bach, Long Beach's first councilwoman and a dedicated advocate for the Lakewood Village community during the 1950s. Our spacious 7,000-square-foot facility, nestled alongside Heartwell Park, replaced the original Lakewood Library, which served the community since 1938.
As one of the most beloved branches of the Long Beach Public Library system, the Ruth Bach Library continues to be a vital resource for residents and visitors alike. We offer a wide array of books, digital resources, and community programs designed to inspire and educate patrons of all ages.
Please note that in observance of Labor Day, all Long Beach Public Library locations and services, including phone lines, will be closed from Saturday, August 31 through Monday, September 2. For your convenience, visit Long Beach Transit for the latest bus schedules to plan your visit.
Discover more about Ruth Bach's inspiring legacy and the rich history of our library during your next visit. We look forward to welcoming you!

"I actually just stopped in the parking lot to wipe off the excess water and tire dressing from the carwash down the street. But Libraries are ALWAYS Awesome! DON'T GET RID OF THEM OR LIMIT WHAT PEOPLE CHOOSE TO READ!"
"Great library! My daughter Nicole just completed the summer reading program. Good selection."
"Small very warm place. I needed help finding plays for my daughter. The librarian was so nice and very helpful. The young man checking us out was also very friendly."
"What is otherwise a great little neighborhood library is too often plagued with people who bring their screaming kids who can do nothing but act off the entire time they are here. Today one was screaming its ass off nonstop. I heard a lady patron complain to the librarian asking if this was a library or a day care center? Her complaint was for the most part ignored and thrown back at her. Eventually the rotten woman who had the screaming kid with her finally took it outside, no thanks to any of the staff. This situation needs to be gotten hold of, otherwise it is not place where anyone can read, work, or study at all."
