Welcome to Olema Valley Trail, a breathtaking park located in Bolinas, California, at the heart of the National Seashore. With approximately 150 miles (240 kilometers) of diverse hiking trails, our park offers endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. Whether you're seeking a leisurely stroll or a challenging hike, our trail maps available at the Bear Valley Visitor Center and on our Maps page will help you customize your journey to suit your physical and time limitations.
Before setting out, we encourage visitors to stop by the Bear Valley Visitor Center for the latest trail information, suggested hikes, and updates on any trail advisories or closures. For a safe and enjoyable experience, please adhere to our guidelines: travel in groups of no more than 25 in designated wilderness areas, stay on marked trails to prevent erosion and avoid natural hazards, and respect all trail closures and barriers.
During the summer and fall, be aware of increased yellow jacket activity. Notices will be posted at trail junctions, and we recommend alternate routes for those with allergies or riding horses. Please report any unposted nests to park staff at 415-464-5100 x2 x5.
For your safety, avoid park residences and operational complexes, stay clear of cliff edges, and dress in layers to prepare for changing weather conditions. Always carry food and water on longer hikes to prevent dehydration and fatigue. Remember, natural water sources may contain Giardia lamblia, so treat all water before drinking.
For those interested in learning about outdoor ethics and the Phillip Burton Wilderness, visit our Wilderness Videos page. Also, if you encounter cattle on trails, understanding their behavior can enhance your hiking experience.
Check for trail advisories and closures before your hike and help us preserve the park by leaving it in better condition than you found it. For more information, including directions, visitor center hours, and wildlife updates, contact us at 415-464-5100. Please note that staff may not be available to answer calls between 4:30 pm and 10 am.
Explore the natural beauty and tranquility of Olema Valley Trail, where every path leads to a new discovery.

Reviews
"Great trails connecting into the deeper network of Point Reyes trails. The pond just a minute from the parking lot is great for observing birds and the trails just at the base of the ridge are usually moist so good for seeing fungi and other decay associating organisms. Poison oak really thrives in this area so keep an eye out if you are allergic"
"Lovely muddy running/hiking trail"
"Amazing trail for hiking, biking and horse back riding. Mix of some fire roads with mostly single track hiking only trails. Overall a large network of trails with lots of canopy cover and beautiful scenery. There are a few rivers with some well constructed bridges. For the ambitious there are back country campgrounds near the ocean about 6 miles from the trail head. This trail is well worth the extra drive time coming from San Francisco."
"Beautiful trail, lots of parking and bathroom at trailhead."
"Perfect to scape to the city and live the real camping experience!"
