"Went in for a smog check. After two minutes, before the actual check was started, I was informed that my car was not ready to test due to a dead battery that erased the engine computer memory. I said I'll come back after I put some miles and start and stop cycles on the computer. I was told I need to pay $41. I said okay but I won't have to pay when I return, right? He said I would have to pay another $41. I refused to pay since the sheet from the smog computer showed "Not Ready" and all he did was take my information and plug I to my cars computer port. I put some miles on the car and took it to my regular smog station in Oxnard, All Smog USA. There I told the owner that I recently had a dead battery and wasn't sure if my car was ready yet. He said "No problem. I'll check it out." After a few minutes, he showed me the computer display and said it was still not ready. He explained how I should drive it at 55 mph for at least 15 minutes several times allowing the engine to cool down between trips. He said just come back later. No charge and a friendly smile. The next day a sheriff's deputy showed up at my door and asked if I didn't pay for a smog check. I told him what happened and he agreed that a smog check was not performed but said legally the owner could charge me the $41 for just plugging my car into his smog computer. I went back and paid the money but lost all respect for that Arco station."
