"I went to see Ms Thomas for a new painful episode of colitis, I wanted a treatment plan and possibly a diagnostic work up. I can say without a doubt it was the worst visit I have ever had with someone in the medical field in my life! I asked her what I could take to prevent another attack and she said, " There is nothing we can do except maybe wait until it gets bad enough and refer you to a General Surgeon to have your colon removed." For obvious reasons I was upset with her answer, and I told her that I wasn't okay with waiting for that to happen and questioned her on some of the other treatments I had read about and informed her that I was an RN and I didn't believe that there wasn't anything that she could do for me. She then said, "You seem upset and tells me maybe I should be on Xanax." This made me feel like she was judging me thinking it was all in my head. I then asked her if a colonoscopy would be helpful, not that I wanted to have one but if it helped to get answers I would definitely have it done. She than says, " Well if you want your colon to rupture we could do one." We talked about lab work and she said, fine I'll give you lab work, I asked what kind of labs would be helpful and she says," I'll give you a complete lab work up, I just don't know what CPT code I will use to justify it". I'm like how about new onset of rectal bleeding and abdominal cramping with an existing diagnosis of colitis. She gets up heads to the door and leaves, when she came back she had papers for lab work and a pamphlet on Inflammatory bowel disease. I left her office with no medication, no treatment plan and still experiencing symptoms from the colitis and no idea on what to do to stop the pain and rectal bleeding. I haven't ate solid food since I saw her because I'm terrified to eat given how painful this is. I also want to clarify that I was not seeking pain pills I was seeking knowledge and treatment to stop this flare, neither of which were addressed by her! I don't know if this is how she is all the time but her lack of empathy and the inability to formulate a treatment plan is very disconcerting. I now have to wait a month to see the gastroenterologist. Update: I did see Dr Woods the gastroenterologist and found out that I had C-diff that whole time and it went undiagnosed for far to long and I believe that Denise Thomas should have ordered a stool sample given my symptoms when I saw her."
