"Dr.Akel Has been our doctor for over 20 yrs. with great skills and compassion, he is dedicated to the care of his patients."
"You're better off not going to the doctor at all if you have to see this man. I wonder if he remembers the Hippocratic Oath, or if he is actually a doctor at all. Absolute QUACK. DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT GO HERE. I saw this "doctor" several years ago. My husband had lost his job during the downturn and we had to go on Medicaid. I was seeking medication for severe anxiety (turned out I was severely hyperthyroid) and a referral to an endocrinologist for the giant lump on my thyroid that you could see from across the room. He tested for TSH, and when that came back normal, he refused to refer me to a specialist. He refused to check T3 and T4 levels. One time he literally walked right out of the room while I was still talking. He refused to discuss anything with me. I was asking him questions and he waved at me, walked out and closed the door. That was the last time I went to see him. I GAVE UP and decided to wait until I had insurance. Time went by and I finally got private insurance. Turned out it was stage 4 thyroid cancer. Perhaps if he had sent me to the correct specialist, we might have found it at stage 3, when I was younger and it was more manageable. 11 years after my appointment with "Dr." Akel, I had my larynx removed due to the advanced stage of thyroid cancer. This man has no business being a doctor. It wouldn't surprise me if he was conducting some sort of Medicaid fraud, because he doesn't seem to be much into the healing and patient portion of the program. Check your Explanations of Benefits carefully. Call your insurance fraud line if you see anything odd. If you have a bad/dangerous/unprofessional experience here, report it to your insurance company AND the State Medical Board."
"Dr Akel is a fantastic doctor with amazing bedside manner. His staff is equally caring and efficient."
"Last November, Dr. Akel repaired an older large hernia (5cm). He was very thorough in his explanation and his staff were totally professional. He performed the surgery at Oak Hill. Flawless. Couldn't ask for a better Dr. Now, at almost 72, I feel fantastic. Glad I listened to my primary care for a great local surgeon."
"I didn’t even get a chance to see the doctor. My husband and I sensed that the nurse at the front desk was going to be trouble, but I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. She had a condescending way of talking to people and ended every conversation with “honey”. After I filled out my paperwork, the nurse told me that I had to contact the imaging center to get my results. I thought it was a bit odd that as a patient that I had to do the legwork to get my own files. I thought all I had to do was sign a release and they do the rest. Instead, the nurse gave me a fax number to their office and told me to call the imaging center to fax them my records. When I got on the phone with the representative, she told me that they had to fill out a form and request it themselves. When I tried to give the nurse my cellphone to make arrangements with the rep, she told me to wait while she spoke to a patient to confirm an upcoming appointment. She didn’t bother to cut the phone call short and I was waiting for her to finish the call while the rep was waiting on my phone. The other nurses saw the look on my face and saw that I was getting angry. When another nurse came over and asked if she could help, I told her not to worry about it, and I walked out."
