"If there was any way possible to give a lower review I would. Responding to the Owner of Cantrells Construction, Mr Mark Shane Cantrell. While you write eloquently responding with an apology to abandoning our job, illegally trying to force us to renegotiate a signed contract and ultimately breaching our contract, we do not accept. Your attempt at self described victimhood attempts to dilute responsibility for your chosen actions. You represented yourself as a professional, which was quickly dispelled by the frequent excuses for delays on your part. You provided facts and figures that did not support any of your financial assertions to our attorney. We will be moving forward with any and all legal avenues to remedy the financial hardship you have caused my wife and I. Update 5/28/2024 Someone please help me make sense of this. I provided: 1. Proof of theft as stated by the contractor Mark Shane Cantrell of Cantrells construction. 2. Proof of breach of contract as stated by Mark Shane Cantrell of Cantrells construction 3. Proof of job abandonment as stated by Mark Shane Cantrell of Cantrells construction. No follow up from the Florida Department of professional business regulation outside of a short phone discussion with the local agent. I know of 5 other families in Florida that have been negatively affected by this contractor and all THe Florida DPBR can do is dismiss this case without further investigation? Who does Mark Shane Cantrell have to negatively affect financially and emotionally, Ron Desantis? For someone to take the proper action and remove his ability to do further harm to hard working people looking to build their dream. I implore the Florida DPBR to look closer at Mark Shane Cantrell and Cantrells Construction and follow the trail of broken promises and real tears."
"Don't pay their bills. I was hired to do work for this company by his assistant. Work was completed and delivered. Invoice is now more than 60 days past due. I spoke to him on the phone three weeks ago and got the "I'll write you a check today and drop it in the mail." Nothing. Guess I will just have to write this off and drop him into the "never work with again" bucket."
"Shane did a beautiful job remodeling my fireplace himself. He discovered rot on exterior of home when the old fireplace was demo'd, and gave me a great rate to repair the entire exterior of my fireplace. I would have never know that was behind the siding and I'm very grateful he found and repaired it. I will be using him again for future work."
"Unresponsive. He has excuses for everything, from not returning calls to not showing up. Fake secretary, claims he is busy all the time but has pulled no building permits in Alachua County. Beware, put your wallet away!"
"We hired Shane Cantrell (Cantrell Construction) to build a barndominium on our property in Alachua County. We paid him $5000 to start our project. Over the course of four weeks we met with Shane twice: Once on the property for 30 minutes and a lunch meeting that lasted an hour an a half. I tried to contact Shane several times during this period but he was unresponsive. Some of his excuses were he was at his kid's soccer game (he used this twice) - wanted to be there for his kids. He said he receives hundreds of texts and calls a day and can't possibly answer them all. On one occasion he said his secretary should have returned the email but her grandmother died. Due to his lack of responsiveness we decided to look for another builder and asked for our deposit back. Contract stated deposit refundable if no overhead work had begun. He refused. He told my husband he would send us an invoice for all the time he spent on our project. Three weeks later we have received nothing from him; no drawings, no renderings, no invoice for accounting for his time. I would not recommend Cantrell Construction."
