"Cute little privately owned campground. Nice view of Peconic Lake. Sadly no swimming in the lake. No electric hookup, and amazing well water access. Much better than city water. Be careful of the marsh during the rain, lol. So many wonderful little fire pits dotted around the campgrounds. Dogs are permitted, I just highly recommend that they be leashed, just in case the swans decide to come on land."
"This was everything I expected it to be and better. It was rustic and peaceful. We appreciated the fire pit because we opted to leave our portable one home. There were porta-potties (yes smelly but it was clean and I brought wipes to clean the seat, as well as brought my own toilet paper even though there was some in there) a shower (I didn't use it but heard it was cold). I've learned after years of camping to not put total cleanliness and hygiene expectations into others hands, so I make sure to bring what I need. Having a morning cup of tea looking out over Peconic Lake watching the hawks catch fish was so relaxing. Our dog was so thrilled to meet other dogs and explore sniff spots. I see another reviewer complained about traffic noise. Well it's Long Island and difficult to get away from that, but even the train didn't bother me. I found the place to be quiet and peaceful with the occasional noise from civilization. I was lulled to sleep by an owl and crickets. How can you beat that?! Taylor was friendly and it was easy checking in with just a phone call he answered right away. Definitely will be back."
"Beautiful place with amazing staff. Very relaxed environment. there isn't much to do if your not a fisherman but I enjoy it and it's spacious. No electricity and water is spread out. Porta potty and 1 outdoor shower. This Camping for Campers not glampers."
"This is going to be our fifth time there of many to come I am sure. I personally use my own toilet, I do use shower there and works amazingly well, love the very cold water. There is always room and this is probably one of the most important reasons for us to go back, our schedule doesn't leave much time to plan so it is very last minute let's go camping :) Sometimes you can hear the noise from expwy some others not, it depends. The train for sure, but it is not a big deal 30 seconds of train noise (you should come live next to the subway in the city) that's annoying... The host it is simple and he doesn't bother about a thing; (Could be that we leave the spot in shape always as you all should). We come in a comercial vehicle which some campgrounds don't allow, well here is not a problem folks. So to me βββββ By the way the lake it is beautiful, can't wait to camp in winter to see it from the spot."
"I was a little hesitant to stay at this campground based on the reviews, but I've learned over the years that you shouldn't let other's opinions dictate yours. My friend and I stayed at Peconic River Campground last weekend on Saturday night and had a great experience! This was a spontaneous trip for us, so we were happy to find someplace that specialized in walk-ins - they don't take reservations and the campground never fills. We rolled into the campground around 1:00pm and called the number on the sign. The owner told us to set up camp anywhere on their lot and his son would swing by later to collect $40 cash. A little pricey considering the simple accommodations (water hose & pit toilet), but hey, it's Long Island. We set up our hammocks in the wooded section and took a walk down by the Peconic River - beautiful at sunset! Yes, the accommodations are basic. Yes, the upkeep could be better. Yes, there are ticks (welcome to camping folks). However, overall we didn't experience any problems with either the hosts or our campsite. The convince of rolling in last minute and choosing a campsite anywhere on the lot was worth any other inconveniences. So is it a 5 star campground? Probably not. But I do believe it's better than the rating it currently has. I wouldn't hesitate to return!"
