"I come here on average, twice a week. The staff is unfriendly, disinterested, and rude. The AC doesn't work. Half of the charging stations are broken. But today was the straw that broke the camel's back. The restroom, normally in the basement in this NON-accesible building, is out of order. When I asked where another bathroom is, I was told there are no other bathrooms...in a three story library...there is only one bathroom...and it's out of order. Well, first of all, that's a lie. There has to be at least one more bathroom in the building. And since the "public" one is out of order, the staff should make the other(s) available to patrons. The Yorkville Library is one of the first Carnegie-funded branches to open in Manhattan. It's a shame that the City sees fit to treat 222 East 79th Street like garbage, considering the building is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places, and was designated as a New York City Landmark in 1967. Do better NYC and NYPL."
"Is this library ever open? Why would it be closed on Saturday, May 25? It's a joke really to direct taxes to an organization that never seems to be open. Or be friendly, or have a semblance of customer service. Why are we paying for this?"
"Lovely branch. It’s a great place to work, read, or spend time browsing shelves. Staff is friendly and kind."
"Children’s room is closed. Noted on the website and on signs on their doors. Not wheelchair accessible. Great for able-bodied adults but otherwise you’re out of luck."
"I visited here a lot during quarantine, it’s a great library! Even though a lot of stuff was cordoned off because of social distancing, I still had a great experience here, with so few people and a nice way to get out of the house. The upstairs section was so peaceful and quiet, I just grabbed a book off the shelf that looked interesting and started reading it in the cushy little armchair they had up there. It was really nice, would recommend! It’s air conditioned and beautifully lit from the windows, if you’re trying to look for a peaceful outing this place is for you."
