"Please fix your phone answering service. It sucks you call and call and no one ever answer the phone. This is an ongoing problem at this clinic and I am tired of it. Who is in charge of this? Please let me know if this is going to be fixed or I am saying good bye to Chu and my cardiologist. This is frustrating. This is not a review for any of my doctors - they are 5 stars the phone system is the problem here. I am fed up!"
"After moving to a new neighborhood, I searched for an in-network physician as I was overdue for a check-up. I selected Dr. Benny Chu in West Orange, NJ, who is part of the Atlantic Medical Group. Upon visiting Dr. Chu's office, I was seated in the waiting room for 25 minutes. Ultimately, a nurse took my blood pressure and weight and sat me in another room, waiting for Dr. Chu. My conversation with Dr. Chu lasted a maximum of 5 minutes where he asked me why I was there. I explained I was overdue for a checkup and wanted my PSA levels checked given some concerns about potential prostate issues. He handed me a prescription for blood tests at a third-party lab, another prescription for a colonoscopy, and sent me on my way. He also asked me to schedule another appointment to review the lab results. In summary, I had my blood pressure and weight checked and was handed two prescriptions. On my second appointment, to review the lab results, I mentioned that when I checked the results online, I couldn't find my PSA score. His quick glance revealed that this was, in fact, overlooked, so he handed me another prescription and told me to go back to the lab and give blood again for a second set of labs. He also told me I might be anemic. The total amount of time spent with Doctor Chu was again, 5 minutes. I am writing this review because my insurance company was billed $551 for the first visit (insurance paid $274.70), and they billed $363.00 for the second visit (insurance paid $179.10), resulting in Atlantic Medical Group sending me a bill for $460.20. I have nothing against Dr. Chu personally, nor do I object to paying for actual services rendered. However, I do question the value received in both appointments, especially the second appointment, which consisted of acknowledging that my initial lab test was incomplete and that I should go get a 2nd one (that appointment was less than 5 minutes with the Doctor). It should also be noted that my insurance company was billed twice for lab tests, and that I paid $99.72 for what they did not cover. In actuality, the second test should not have been paid for by the insurance company or myself, as that test was only needed because a mistake was made. Following both short visits, I don't have any useful visibility into my current health, and will need to schedule an appointment with another doctor."
"Dr. Benny Chu is the best internist that I have ever treated with! I have been under Dr. Chu’s medical care for a long time and he has always been caring, knowledgeable, professional and understanding towards his patients’ medical needs. Dr. Chu’s office has enough space to accommodate all of his patients, both new and existing, and he never makes any patient wait a long time before being called inside and treated by him. Dr. Chu’s office is situated in a location that offers plenty of off-street parking. I highly and strongly recommend Dr. Benny Chu, because he is an outstanding internist… The best of the best in his field!"
"Got an appointment easily for a telehealth call via FaceTime. My appointment was for 10:30 am, by 11:10 am he still hasn’t called. So I called the main office, and the person who picked up said that I was next on his call list. Fine, so I waited some more. Until 12:30 pm rolled around with still no doctor call when I had to leave to pick up my son from school. I called the office again - they were on their lunch break and have no way of leaving a message. I was told by the automated system to call back after 1 pm. I called back again and the same person picked up the phone. I told her that I am officially canceling my appointment and that I do not want my insurance to be billed. No apologies, just an appalled voice sounding exasperated that the doctor never called me. She then proceeded to ask me “why didn’t I call back sooner?” At this point, I’m pretty annoyed because it sounded accusatory and firmly informed her that I did try to call but everyone was at lunch. “Oh” was her response. She offered to reschedule me for later that day but after two hours of waiting around for the doctor to call, I figured I would find another doctors office that was more patient-centered than this. Maybe it was an off day since Dr. Chu has pretty good reviews here, but still a disappointing experience."
"Dr Chu, is the most patient, detail oriented doctor i have ever had. I thoroughly appreciate his patience and gentleness. He always ensures I leave my appointment with a full understanding of what's going on, why and what to expect!"
