"Where has this place been hiding all my life(63 years). No nonsense, just busy mainline to the north and south of the picnic table where I sit. I'm from Buffalo, about an hour away, and found this place by accident about 40 years too late. Got treated to a CN powered westbound about two minutes after I arrived. Camping at the KOA in Westfield. I'm coming back either tonight or tomorrow night after dark, since the park is open 24 hours!!!"
"Great place to relax and watch trains . I'm not a "railfan" per say , my nephew is . However , very active spot to see a bunch of different locomotives . Rest area with a bench and a small garden even if you wanna grab some veges on the go right on the corner post . One thing I'll say is reception is basically none on handheld scanners besides your phone ofcourse . Otherwise again , amazing place to watch trains and hang out ."
"If you see another railfanner , you're screwed for a good shot without them in it , really only two good places to get a good shot without other railfaners getting in your way , the other spot is the only spot with shade but still you'll have the old folks in the scene , in Summer it's a sweltering hot mess . When we went, this railfan kid just kept getting in our shots no matter how hard I tried . He kept moving out the way of a phone pole that kept him hidden . To wrap up my review , you gotta be the lucky number one to be there and it's going to be when after school starts, so the railfan tripod kid that hogs the scene isn't going to be there. Now , if you love trains without filming , have a great time laughing at the railfaners that try so hard to film lol... Lots of rail activity"
"I was visiting the North East/Erie, PA area for only my second time. Railfanning was the primary objective and a friend of mine informed me of the Westfield Railfan Park nearby in NY so I decided to visit. The park is situated on land between the CSX and Norfolk Southern mainlines. The park has a parking area along with picnic tables, benches, grills among the amenities. There were no restroom facilities at the park at the time of my visit. Up to 50 or more trains pass the park per 24 hours total combined between the two railroads. During a few hour visit, I saw some Parents as well as Grandparents bringing children to the park and having lunch at the picnic tables while trains passed. The grounds were well maintained with the grass mowed. There are two railroad crossings adjacent to the park. One for CSX and the other for Norfolk Southern. Common sense should be used by visitors in keeping the park clean (taking your trash back out with you)and staying off nearby residents properties as I did notice some no trespassing signs on at least one property adjacent to the park. All in all, I enjoyed my visit and will return again in the future."
"With trains rolling through on an average of every 20 minutes the dedicated to the amateur railfan or photographer will be entertained."
