"They’re just “okay,” and that’s the most I’ll say about this LGBTQIA+ bar right now. While I hope they’re able to at least have read, “The Economic Case for LGBT,” by L.V. Lee Badgett, there’s also more, to have induced our “Poverty, By America,” as outlined by Matthew Desmond. Vanett Menta may be disappointed that this bar could have forgotten that “Bisexual Men Exist” in a bi-curious way, whether Menta would have learned of such the spectrum by the time of the aforementioned book’s writing, or not. There’s two sides to an incident, directly after a Super Bowl, directly after seeing homeless…so now I’m just wanting to learn more about “How to Find a Four-Leaf Clover,” by Jodi Rodgers *Mic Check[s] with Sophie Hunter* #YearOfThe[Purple]Dragon"
"There is a world where Bar Freda is the best event space in all of the outer boroughs. The space itself open, charming, and really seems like the perfect spot to grab a drink and watch some up and coming bands. Unfortunately, any of the obviously good qualities of this venue are completely nullified by the horrendous management. The owner of the bar was hostile and combative with several patrons last night, getting in multiple people’s faces and shouting one person out of the bar. She raised an issue that didn’t need to be raised, caused a scene where there didn’t need to be one and left a clear air of confusion and malcontent amongst her staff. People I’ve talked to have affirmed that this is not a one time event and that the owner of the venue waves around her power as if owning some dime a dozen dive bar makes her the queen of France. It gives me no pleasure to excoriate her in a public forum like this but her behavior last night was so off putting and upsetting that it stands a clear mark against what has the potential to be a wonderful space. Freda, please consider changing your attitude or your management."
"Went to see a show last night there and had amazing time. Ordered the chai old fashioned and honestly it was one of the better old-fashions I've had. The venue is really cool because the show was actually in the basement, but it kind of reminded me of being back in the '90s watching a grunge set."
"Vibes! Great neighborhood place with solid cocktails and live music. $6 happy old fashioneds keeping the NYC dream alive..."
"Love Bar Freda!! Danielle, Austin, Samson and everyone else on staff are absolutely excellent. Prices are fair for the area and it never takes too long to get a drink. The shows and events downstairs are absolutely awesome and there are usually djs upstairs on the weekend. The owners have really worked hard to foster a sense of community. In you’re in Ridgewood, you should absolutely check out Bar Freda."
