"We needed a vacation and were excited to check out Smith Mountain Lake. The lake was nice and calming however upon arrival the house needed cleaning. It was after hours so that was left to us.The rug and living room floors had quite a bit of dog fur on them as well as dust bunnies in corners. Under the rug was much dirt. We too have dogs but expect vacation rentals to be vacuumed. The kitchen floor had crumbs on it with other food particles so we had to wipe those. Bathrooms and kitchen counters were clean, as was the fridge. Microwave needed wiping down.The house could use a paint job and the blank wall once held a tv we were sorry had been removed. The cove was nice but hard for swimming dogs due to rocks."

"The SML Vacation Rentals Team is FANTASTIC & EXCELLENT!!! Josie & Teresa ALWAYS treat me like I'm "family". Always so nice, pleasant, friendly, helpful and take care of my vacation plans every year!!! Reservations go smoothly, computer generated email updates. Guess I'm a "Frequent Flyer", lol --- I've rented the Wagon Wheels house through SML Vacation Rentals 16 times since 1999, and 2023 will be # 17. I do go off-season, Fall, nice & peaceful and weather is still nice. Wagon Wheels & it's location will always be me & my "late" Blake Dog's Paradise Spot! Blake loved the dock to watch "his" fish. And Valley Mill Road is a nice serene walk. The house is small, but for me and my dog it's been perfect, the property's outside layout is "the winner" for me. Wagon Wheels has a beautiful scenic wide waterfront & looking from the floor-to-ceiling windows on the back end of the house, it appears as if the lake water comes right up below the back deck. Breakfast on the deck & the view - PRICELESS. Another nice thing is there is a sizable buffer between the houses to left & the right, so the Wagon Wheels lakefront area is private. The sandy beach has a VERY GRADUAL walk-in/slope to the lake, excellent for dogs & people to enter the lake. AND, the white sand beach has been refreshed, nice & new this year! The dock has an upper level that gives great views of the cove & Craddock Creek waters. Nice wide section on the main dock for fishing, sitting out, picnic, etc. There are flood lights on the dock and electric outlet which is nice for nighttime dock activities. Smith Mountain Lake State Park is only about a mile up the road. Another Blake Dog FAVORITE. Lots of hiking trails, little sandy beaches off the trails. Mariner's Landing Golf Course is about 1.5 miles up the road. Nice new management, been really fixing up the course last 2 years. Friendly staff. Good Tough layout. General Store is about 2 miles away, Full Grocery store about 11 miles. Smith Mountain Lake = My Favorite Getaway!!!"

"My family and friends with their family rented from this company and we were so disappointed with a few things. Most of all we had an unannounced visit from the property manager, (Josie) the first evening we arrived. She just walked in, returned something and helped herself to the ice in the fridge then left. I feel as a paying tenant for the week there should never be an unexpected visit. We deserve privacy as if it were ours for the week. I have been coming to SML and renting for 10+ years and have never experienced this."

"Hathaway (June) We had a great time at the Autumn Holiday house. The house was clean and the interior looked even better than the posted pictures. The walls were decorated with lovely art/pictures. Every other trip out you would see deer up close. The screened porch was nice and the trees provided a lot of shade in the backyard. This section of the lake is not super busy with boat traffic, so it’s a relaxing stay. There is a marina across the lake that is only a short drive. I highly recommend renting a boat and getting some pictures with the mountain near the dam behind you. SML Vacation Rentals was very responsive to our questions. We really had a great time and I would go back in a minute. I highly recommend this house."
