Mammoth Run offers visitors an opportunity to explore one of the nation's most biologically significant waterways—French Creek. This beautiful creek is home to an astonishing 27 species of native freshwater mussels and over 80 species of fish. Rich in historical significance, French Creek provides a serene setting for a variety of recreational activities, including hiking, bird-watching, and kayaking.

The park is also a hub for community engagement and environmental stewardship. One of its marquee events is the annual French Creek Cleanup. Since 1992, volunteers have gathered each year to remove trash from the waterway and surrounding land, culminating in a festive picnic at the Cambridge Springs Fairgrounds. This event has grown to become the largest day of stewardship in the watershed, attracting hundreds of participants and generating significant funds for conservation efforts through corporate sponsorships and donations.

The Cleanup event is not only a vital community effort but also a friendly competition. Corporate teams vie for the coveted traveling hellbender trophy, while individuals, schools, and organizations compete for cash prizes.
