"Unnecessary fees are included in your lease, to which the Chelsea does not disclose to residents. About $3,000 worth when you move out are due. I had a buddy who was thinking about moving in to my old apartment there, and he decided not to after I told him this. Do not move in here, overpriced and not worth the headache."
"Update: My wife and I have lived in the community for two years. Avoid this community. Everything we have loved about this community has faded in year two. Management prioritized remodeling and attracting new residents while neglecting the experience of current residents. Amenities are frequently closed (pool, parts of the gym), and loud residential remodeling is in process. If you are a neighbor of a unit being remodeled, good luck. Other things: -In our first year here, we placed a complaint about bricks/stones falling from the third story of the arch outside our apartment. To date, the fixture is still rotting and it appears that bricks are still falling. No response since. -In March and June of 2023, we approached the desk to complain about two broken treadmills. -In July of 2023, I submitted a formal complaint in the resident portal. -In December of 2023, we spoke with the property manager in the clubhouse— I was excited to hear that the reason the treadmills had been neglected was because the gym was to be entirely remodeled/updated in January/February of 2024. In March of 2024, with treadmills still non-functioning, I spoke with someone at the desk, who said that gym renovations would be done in April of 2024. -I’m writing this review with no action taken, June 2024. -When there has been police activity in the complex, management does not address incidents. My wife and I recall one recent Friday night where at least 10 police cars were directly outside our unit as helicopters circled above for hours. The outside entrance was blocked, and I believe I saw a swat vehicle as well. We received no communication about the incident. -Community rules are not enforced: The pool/clubhouse visitors policy, non-smoking community, trash compactor rules, trash outside apartment rules. We had an issue with raccoons by our unit for quite a while. -Trash Compactor often does not work— at times, you will see trash pile up outside of the compactor. Horrible smell and visual when you pass that part of the complex. Nobody follows the “large trash” rules either. -Walls and floors are paper thin. You can feel and hear everything your neighbors are doing. You can also smell if surrounding units are smoking through your vents. -You are supposed to inform the manager of your intent to renew/vacate at least 60 days in advance, per our lease agreement. We did not even receive our lease renewal offer until 63 days before our lease was to end. We expressed interest about a month before then. Kirstyn is wonderful and was able to help us out. But lots of the language in the lease is not followed through upon on management’s end. -If you rent here, just plan to get their renters insurance. Once again, Kirsytn is wonderful, friendly, and very helpful. However, we’ve been paying for our own renters insurance plan through progressive since October 2023. IRT (the company that owns the chelsea) force placed us back onto our renters insurance plan almost immediately. We have been double paying for renters insurance for about 4 months now, with no progress toward a fix."
"I have been living at the Chelsea for 2 years now and this was my very first apartment. All I can say is that I had an amazing experience and there is nothing I could complain about. The staff were very welcoming during my entire time living there. 10/10."
"Krysten was absolutely amazing!!! She provided a wealth of knowledge regarding the apartment homes, the community and amenities. She remembered the small details that were important to us and she was always available for questions and concerns prior to us signing our lease. The warm welcome from Krysten really sealed the deal on my decision to make the Chelsea my new home."
"My husband lived here for 3 years before I moved in, with a total of 7 years occupancy. We have never been late on a payment and no noise or exterior complaints. We needed to break our lease 3 months early. Our lease did not have any termination language or addendums included. I had to ask for the termination information, and when I read the addendum, was told we could not negotiate our termination fee, which states it’s an agreed upon or bargained fee in the document. Without a signed addendum, over $4k was illegally removed from our bank account. The company couldn’t write us a check or reimburse funds, so we had to file a fraud claim with our bank that took 9 days. The property manager admitted there was a glitch in their system and we should have had our termination information in the original lease and the money shouldn’t have been removed. She was condescending and dismissive, and told me to talk to their legal counsel after she failed to give me information from them as she said she would. Their legal counsel berated and degraded me to tears by mocking me to their colleagues in the office while I was on the phone with them. They said the company could have our funds back in a day, contradicting what the property manager said, and it didn’t happen. This led to me discussing with the VP of IRT. After informing her of the fraud, disrespect, and inconveniences of this situation, they offered me a $100 credit. No apartment move out final walk through was offered. The manager has left me 2 voicemails about some furniture we left behind. Considering our past conflicts, I would prefer all communication in writing and have told her this, yet no email has been sent. Our lease clearly states any personal belongings left behind are considered abandoned and will be removed at our cost. Maintenance employees are the ones who remove personal items from my understanding after talking with 3 different maintenance men, so I’m not sure what she needs from us or what cost would be incurred. Trash has been overflown to a disgusting level on multiple occasions at the dumpster, with the promise of cameras installed to prevent this. That didn’t happen either. Just a few weeks ago there were over 17 cop cars, a swat truck, and our entrance blocked due to a shootout. It was a great place to live until management changed. Considering all of this, I would absolutely not recommend moving here. Go to the LC or Camden next door"
