Our Story:

The journey of Funland began when Allen and Don Fasnacht, their wives Jean and Dee, and their parents Al and Sis, visited the Delaware seashore in August 1961. At that time, the Fasnacht family was managing a quaint picnic park near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, known as Willow Mill Park. Their visit to the Rehoboth Beach Sports Center, owned by the Dentino family, sparked a conversation that would change their lives. Mr. Dentino proposed selling the Sports Center to the Fasnachts, a proposition that initially seemed far-fetched but soon turned into a reality.

By March 1962, the Fasnacht family was ready to finalize the purchase. However, nature had other plans, as the Great Atlantic Storm struck on March 6, causing significant damage to the area. Despite this setback, both the Fasnacht and Dentino families agreed to proceed with the sale, making necessary adjustments for the storm damage. This resilience marked the beginning of a new chapter for the amusement park.

A Legacy of Fun:

Over the years, Funland has grown and evolved, expanding its attractions, rides, and games to delight generations of visitors. The Fasnacht family's dedication to the park is evident, with over twenty 3rd and 4th generation family members actively involved in its operations, and a promising 5th generation ready to carry on the legacy.

Recognition and Media Features:

Funland's rich history and commitment to providing old-fashioned fun have been recognized by various media outlets. CBS Sunday Morning featured Funland in a segment titled "Old-Fashion Fun: Funland," and Content Delaware produced a documentary called "Nothing Beats Fun: The Funland Story!" Additionally, the Cape Gazette celebrated our 50th anniversary with a retrospective on our enduring presence at the Rehoboth seashore.
