"I usually have no issues donating here. The staff is usually very kind, especially Heather. However, the last two times I donated I had the same person stick me. I did not catch her name, but she had long black hair down to her waist and was wearing a mask. Every time she has stuck me, it is painful at the initial needle penetration and then CONTINOUSLY as I am donating. Sharp, throbbing pain even as I'm just laying there letting the machine do it's work. It sent jolts of pain down my arm to pump my fist as we are told to do. Again, I have NEVER had this issue except when this girl sticks me. She is slow to insert the needle which feels like torture and then quick to withdraw it when I have completed the donation. It's because of her awful skill that I have bruising on my arm now. If you donate her, do NOT let her hook you up to the machine. Request someone else, unless you want to be in pain."
"I've donated MANY times at this center over the last 7 months (over 20 times.) And overall, the experience is fine and the staff are typically very nice! However, I have two complaints ... 1.) Occasionally the appointments are clearly overbooked with not enough staff working, so what *should* take an hour can sometimes easily take 2+ hours. And 2.) (This is the #1 reason for the 2 stars ...) A week ago when I donated, the girl who was hooking me up for my donation was clearly sick- she was wearing a cloth mask, and she was sniffling and coughing a lot. When I said, "It sounds like you aren't feeling well," she responded with, "Yeah, I have COVID." Like ... what??? The fact that no one sent this person home is mind boggling to me! She insisted that she wasn't contagious (even though she mentioned that she had a horrible fever just 2 days prior.) And it's NO COINCIDENCE that just 4 days later I got sick and tested positive for COVID. (I literally hadn't gone anywhere else in those days.) Now I'm sick, and my husband got it too and is REALLY sick. Why would you let someone who is CLEARLY sick be working on the floor around other people? Those flimsy cloth masks are NOT effective. I'm pretty upset about this complete lack of care when it comes to spreading COVID (or whatever else) around. Now my husband and I are both very sick and are unable to work this week- which is costing us both money."
"I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with an incident that occurred during my visit this morning, July 17, 2024, at this Lenexa location. My concerns primarily revolve around the handling of a situation by Tyler (Office Manager) and the procedure for needle readjustment performed by your two technicians. During my plasma donation, I encountered an issue with the placement of the needle. Regrettably, the technician attempted to readjust the needle in a manner that I found concerning. The technician proceeded to move the needle sideways and aggressively adjusted it back and forth, which caused discomfort and distress. This approach not only deviates from standard procedure but also induced physical discomfort, including sweating, overheating, and teary eyes. Upon bringing this matter to Manager Tyler's attention, I expected a professional response and reassurance that corrective measures would be taken. Instead, I was taken aback when Tyler informed me that the technicians alleged I used inappropriate language during the procedure. I immediately requested evidence to substantiate these claims, which was not provided. This exchange only added to my distress during an already unsettling experience. As a concerned donor and in accordance with established guidelines, particularly those outlined by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) regarding venipuncture standards, I must emphasize that blindly probing or relocating a needle sideways in the medial aspect of the antecubital area is unacceptable due to the risks involved with nerves and the brachial artery. I am disappointed by the lack of a direct apology for the distress caused and the apparent mishandling of the situation. I want the technicians involved retrained promptly on the appropriate procedures for needle relocation to prevent such incidents in the future. There is a misconception around donating plasma that everyone coming in is having a financial hardship and wouldn’t be able to proceed with future legal proceedings against the company. I was negatively impacted towards my last interaction and in return with bringing up a complaint I am placed on a permanent deferment. I hope you have substantial proof to substantiate your current claims. To anyone thinking about coming here, don’t. There is so many other plasma centers in the city, choose somewhere where they treat you fairly. It’s not worth it here."
"My experience was great. Beckie, Roberta and Paige were amazing! They all took the time to explain things and answer my questions and made sure that I was good throughout the entire process."
"My first donation with BioLife went smoothly thanks to these amazing staff- Cindy, Becki, and Tyler! They were fabulous in explaining the steps that would be taken and making me feel comfortable. Cannot say enough good about those three that took care of me! Wait times seem like they could get a bit long if a lot of people show up at the same time, but the staff that interacted with me-awesome!"
