Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin, located at 638 N 18th St, Milwaukee, WI, is dedicated to saving lives through the power of blood donation. As a pivotal health institution, Versiti offers a range of donation options perfect for both first-time and regular donors.
Blood Donations:
The most common type of donation, ideal for first-time donors, takes about 1 hour. Donors can contribute blood up to six times a year, providing a vital resource for transfusions and emergency room patients.
Double Red Cell Donations:
In this impactful form of donation, you can donate two units of oxygen-rich red blood cells. Though you’ll donate half as often, each donation makes twice the difference for those in need.
Plasma Donations:
Every 4 weeks, you can donate plasma to help trauma survivors, patients with bleeding disorders, and others in need. The plasma donation process typically takes about 1.5 hours.
Platelet Donations:
Donate platelets to support cancer warriors, premature babies, and other patients. While the process takes about 2 hours, you can donate up to 24 times a year, providing a critical lifeline for many.
Community Engagement:
Beyond our donor centers, Versiti regularly hosts blood drives at schools, workplaces, and other local venues. You can easily search for blood drives near you by zip code or explore our featured community events.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteers play an essential role in our lifesaving mission. Learn more about how you can contribute to your community through Versiti’s volunteer services.

"They are terrible in everyway possible. I donated blood and they did not provide any proper care. The whole experience was painful. On my way home, I crashed because they took way too much blood than they should be. I was taken to the emergency room because I lost too much blood. They didnt check my weight and took blood without proper measurements. They are not even good at it, all the people were always laughing, joking around, super slow and unprofessional. Now they keep on calling me to donate blood. When I say I cant, they get furious. This is a voluntary work, why do I have to give them an explanation for why I wont donate blood? Pathetic! They get super rude on phone and keep calling at weird hours."
"Today was my first time donating blood in a very long time. I want to compliment the Versiti staff that took care of me at the Bay View community Center site. All was well until I got up too fast. The staff calmly rushed into action - Catching me before I hit the ground. They were very professional and kind. I wish that I could remember their names to give them personal kudos. I will be back again. Next time, I'll just move slower."
"My school does an annual blood drive every year and this year I was finally old enough to donate. This was my first time so of course I was going to be nervous. These people did nothing to make me feel better. They shamed me for a high heart rate, they were laughing at me for being nervous about this being my first time and worst of all the woman looked at my sheet and fat shamed me. She showed the person next to her and she laughed again. Me a 16 year old was being fat shamed by people probably twice my age and then telling me that it’s good that I didn’t give blood because of how fat I am. This is no way to treat a high school student and I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND not going here to trust your safety in these peoples hands."
"I've always had a good experience when giving blood, but today was probably the best I've had. Janae Smith was the nurse who was taking my blood, and she was by far the sweetest and most helpful person. She talked to me the whole time and was so friendly. It felt like I was there with one of my friends. She just had the most pure soul. I wish her nothing but the best and hope to get her again sometime!"
"i always try to donate blood when i can, and every time it has always been a good experience. but today, i had the best experience all thanks to Janae Smith, she was so caring. she was talking to me throughout the whole process, and we were just talking about our lives. she has a very sweet and pure personality, definitely one of the best. i wish her the best!"
