Our journey began with Fabien's dream of opening a French restaurant. However, upon realizing the lack of traditional French bakeries in Pittsburgh and his love for baking, La Gourmandine was born. Both Fabien and Lisanne grew up in families where sharing a meal was a cherished tradition. As Fabien fondly recalls, "there was always a bottle of wine and some fresh bread on the table, and it hasn’t changed!"
Lisanne, with her roots in Pittsburgh through her mother, always felt a connection to the city. When she decided to move to the United States, Pittsburgh was the natural choice. Fabien, who didn't speak English upon his arrival, began his culinary journey as a line cook in some of the city's finest restaurants. His passion for baking led him to study at the renowned Lenôtre Culinary Institute in Paris, where he honed his skills.
La Gourmandine's story began in June 2010 with the opening of our first bakery and pastry shop in Lawrenceville. Four years later, in October 2014, we expanded to Mt. Lebanon. In 2017, we centralized our production in Hazelwood, which also features a storefront. Our latest addition is a cafe in Downtown Pittsburgh, offering a full espresso bar for a complete French experience.
Whether you're planning your next party or simply want to indulge in some delectable French pastries, visit our full menu and allow 48 hours lead time for any special orders. At La Gourmandine, we are dedicated to bringing a piece of France to your table, one delicious bite at a time.

"delightful spot for anyone craving authentic French pastries. Their croissants, éclairs, and macarons are simply divine, and you can truly taste the quality and craftsmanship in every bite. The ambiance of the shop is charming and makes you feel like you're in a quaint Parisian café!"
"We travel full time and I am always on the lookout for a French bakery. La Gourmandine is my absolute favorite! They offer a selection of delectable pastries and breads. Get there early because they sell out during busy times or place an order in advance to guarantee. Perfect harmony of flavors, textures and aromas. Their Croissant Amandes are to die for! When in Pittsburgh their cakes always accompany us visiting family and friends. In the pictures are Tarte Citron, The Marquise: Chocolate mousse, crème brûlée, vanilla sponge and crunchy caramel yum! The last is Pistachio. If you’re in Pittsburgh you have to visit!"
"La Gourmandine is a local French bakery chain, and it is definitely one of the best in the area. My husband and I have really enjoyed every tart and croissant that we have bought from them. They also sell sandwiches, quiches, cakes, and breads, which I might someday try. I think that the prices are very reasonable for the high quality. The employees have promptly and politely greeted me, carefully packaged my foods, accurately processed my payment, and thanked me and wished me a great day. The only negative about this business is the location in an area that has street parking and lots of traffic."
"Coming from a culture where it’s so common to find pastries and fresh bread, a visit to La Gourmandine is like going home for one hour. They have a wide range of tasty treats such as croissants, baguettes, among other items. It’s also cool to see that they’ve expanding their stores and having this one in Hazelwood."
"This place has the best macarons I've ever had. Ive been ordering from them about once a week for a while now. Once you try their baked stuff you can't stop thinking about it. The gourmandise pastry, and the chocolate almond croissants are amazing."
