Ricketts Glen State Park
About the Business
Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Luzerne, Sullivan, and Columbia counties, Ricketts Glen State Park is one of Pennsylvania's most scenic and cherished natural treasures. Spanning over 13,193 acres, this vast park offers a diverse array of activities and breathtaking sights for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and tourists alike.
Falls Trail Update:
As of April 6, 2023, the Falls Trail is open for the 2023 season. However, please note that a section of the trail remains closed for hazard mitigation and repairs. Specifically, the closure affects the Glen Leigh side of the system, from F.L. Ricketts Falls to Ozone Falls. While a full loop of the trail system is not currently possible, hikers can still enjoy 20 of the 22 waterfalls and will need to backtrack at some point to return to their starting point.
Spotted Lanternfly Alert:
The invasive spotted lanternfly has been detected in the area. This pest poses a significant threat to Pennsylvania's resources, businesses, and economy. Visitors are urged to inspect their vehicles, campers, tents, and gear before leaving the park and to destroy any lanternflies found. For more information, please visit the Penn State Extension’s Spotted Lanternfly website.

"Very nice State Park. Natural waterfall trails are very steep and slippery. Wear the proper footwear and be in good physical shape to do the trails. Stayed in the campground on the small loop, and while very exposed and by the road, it was much quieter than I thought it would be, especially during quiet hours. Lake Jean is a great lake to paddle or fish. Clean, not overly crowded, at least when I went. Stores fairly close by for food and fuel. Showers and bathroom cleaned everyday. Heated showers are not exactly what you get. Sometimes, it's warmish water, mostly cold the whole time. If you have a camper with a shower, I'd do it there. Last but not least is the night sky. Absolutely amazing stars! It's very dark at night and very little light pollution makes for some great stargazing!! Get out and enjoy!"
"Great place to hike, especially if you like waterfalls. We hiked the Highland Trail/Falls Trail loop, taking in the 21 waterfalls. It's about 4 mile +/- with some relatively steep elevation change over a short distance. We hiked it in a clockwise direction. Much of the trail has stone steps, which can be a help or a hindrance at times. Our dog hiked with us with no major problems. The falls are truly amazing - many are large waterfalls! It's definitely worth stopping for a great experience. Bring your kayak too - Lake Jean looks like a pleasant paddle (we were short on time, so we had to skip it this visit)."
"This was my first time actually hiking, and I loved it!! However, it is not for the weak. The changes in elevation, steep steps, and informal pathways can make it challenging. If you have any physical health conditions (bad knees, etc.) and/or are not fit, this trail is not for you. It took us 4 hours to do a whole loop of the waterfalls. We skipped the 3 extra ones further down south. ‼️MAKE SURE TO BRING: a backpack, water bottles (personal one and plastic ones), snacks, bug spray, and dress appropriately!! I filled my steel water bottle with ice, and that helped with cooling down. Wearing a pair of comfortable and sturdy sneakers is also very important!"
"Going rustic was fun for first time camping. The park has many amenities including cabins if you need those instead of tent camping. You can book 11 months in advanced. Family camping this year was amazing. Great waterfall trails. Saw all 21 of them, about 12.5 miles. It's relaxing, don't let the 12 miles scare you. There is also a beach with watercraft rentals. The kids love it. It is in between two pond/ lakes so plenty of fishing. One of the best places I have ever been to and if it wasn't for my need to explore different places every year, we would go back. The Rangers are also amazing and friendly."
"This is nature's beauty at its finest. There are at least 20 waterfalls on this 2.5 to 3 mile hike. It's a moderate level hike. The waterfalls are breathtaking. The hike through the woods as well as along the stream is positively relaxing and gorgeous. This is a hike you can bring your kids with you but I would recommend 5 or older in age due to the steep steps and cliffs. Overall, I highly recommend this hiking location."
