"I was treated by Susana Bowling over three years (2004 to 2007) in Birmingham AL. She was extremely short sighted and not a good doctor. I went over 3 years with crazy symptoms (everything from massive headaches, focal point seizures, double vision, having stroke like symptoms without having a stroke, and more!). I kept a spread sheet with all these episodes. She treated me with pills to treat blood clots and anti-seizure medicine. She somewhat jokingly and in an off handed way said once, “Patti, you don’t want to have a spinal tap. Do you?” Of course I said no. I had MRI after MRI. She wrote off the white matter in my brain because of an autoimmune disease (Sjogren’s Syndrome) that I had diagnosed right before I started seeing her. If I had known then what I know now, I would have diagnosed myself with Multiple Sclerosis. Thankfully, my PCP sent me to Dr. Emily Riser. She looked at my spreadsheet of symptoms and said I was going to have a lumbar puncture, also known as a spinal tap. The next week (in January of 2008) she diagnosed me with Multiple Sclerosis. I was almost immediately taken off the meds that Susana Bowling had prescribed. Since then, because of Dr. Riser’s excellent care, I am in a very good place and have my MS under control. I just wonder how much better off I would have been if I had the proper diagnosis four years earlier."
