"I was trying to set up an appointment for my daughter, was on hold for 20 mins the female that answered was totally rude and unprofessional then she hung up on me. Needless to say the appointment didn't get setup!"
"While he seems competent as a surgeon I felt that his bedside manner empathy and compassion was lacking."
"i'm almost 72. i injured myself thru over-exertion and thinking i can still do what i did when i was 27. i was experienceing some fairly severe pain that seemed to come from a hip joint. i procrastinated a couple of months, taking advil, hoping it would get better. it did not. i finally decided i needed to have a proper exam, out of concern that i might be causing more damage by continuing to do chores. when i called, dr avolio's office was very accomodating, and got me an appt the very next morning. i arrived 20 min early to complete paperwork, and the staff were all cheerful, helpful, and highly efficient. there were a handful of other patients in the waiting room who were all called ahead of me as i filled out the forms, but after a very minimal wait, the dr saw me at the appointed time. he patiently listened carefully to my situation. then he had an x-ray tech on staff take a few diagnostic images on site. the images were processed within minutes, and dr avolio returned immediately to show them to me and discuss the results. he assured me that the x-rays revealed that i had not done any permanent damage to the hip joint, but pointed out some other things on the x-rays and told me the pain i was experiencing was actually originating from my lower back and not my hip joint. he gave me a Rx for a one week course of steroids to reduce the inflammation and promote healing (which i could feel begin working immediately). he said the lower back was not his area of specialization, and recommended some physical therapy as a first option, and said that if i felt it necessary, i should consult with another dr who specializes in the lower back. he did NOT try to talk me into an unnecessary and costly hip surgery, and he did NOT try to pressure me into a snap decision. he seemed genuinely concerned with what would be the best course of action for me, not for his bank acct. to me, that speaks volumes about integrity. am i pleased with the prognosis? of course not. none of us want to face the fact that we're getting older. but dr avolio and his staff were 100% professional. not sure why there are negative reviews. i hope those people found a dr to their liking. but for me, i can find nothing negative to say about dr avolio. thank you for allaying my worst fears."
"Stay. Away. This guy might know some things from medical school, but he hasn't learned anything since. I bet he tells his peers F* science and technology. In my case I had a busted left shoulder. Years of abuse from football and hoops injuries. It finally went for good after a night of heavy lifting. An X-ray, MRI and scope later I had the post-scope appointment and Avolio says "You can never lift again. Be happy with the mobility you have." Of course I had questions. This wasn't the answer I wanted. But he turned, walked away and said someone would be right in. It was a nurse with a slip for PT so I could strengthen some supporting muscles.... Fast forward two years. I find a doctor who stays on top of science and technology. He took stem cells from my hips and put them into my shoulder. After a 12 week healing wait he cleared me to lift. I went from not being able to bench press 100lbs without incredible pain to now almost 200lbs my first night back. Pain free. Again, pain free. From never lifting again to almost 200lbs pain free after a two year layoff while searching for a solution. Find a real doctor. Leave Washington County and this quack."
"I went to Dr Avolio earlier in the year to have some long standing knee problems properly diagnosed. They took quick x-rays of my knees and I waited about 45 minutes to have the doctor enter and speak to me to, no exaggeration, less than 2 minutes. He told me that it was "normal for women my age to have knee problems." I'm 30. I feel as though he brushed off my knee problems because I am also overweight, although my knee problems started years before I started gaining weight. I took pic tures of my x-rays with my cell phone and showed them to my rheumatologist and he said "In no way are these normal x-raysf or a woman of 30 years old" and immediately worked with me to find an anti-inflammatory to get me up on my feet and move active while we worked on the rest of my issues. I will never visit this doctor again, and I urge anyone else who is overweight but also experiencing very real joint problems to avoid him as well."
