"I’ve had only good experiences here. Pturtle (Frenchie) loves his visits here, he also had an awful ear infection that they helped clear up quickly and Cermet (Aussie) has been an anxious menace since he was a puppy - scared of everything - finally at age 10 this new (to us) vet prescribed an anxiety med that seems to be working! While still our anxious boi, he is so far much better/significantly less destructive/not hurting himself when we leave the house. Fingers crossed this new anxiety med keeps working! Thank you, JVH!"
"I don’t usually post reviews but if I can I’d like to save others in the community as JVH has been a waste of money, time, and has been incredibly frustrating to work with. My dog & I have been completely let down by Dr. New & JVH. I understand that here in Juneau there are certain things out of their control (ie: no CT scan available in Juneau, Dr. New was out sick, etc.) but the things that are in their control are very poorly handled. The communication between staff/clients is lacking as we are not told pricing before procedures, how to handle medicating at home, what options my dog has, & when they tell me I’ll get a call back, I’m always the one to have to call. Dr. New led me to believe there was more he could do for my dog than was actually available. Now I have to leave town for an emergency appointment with my dog. I feel so disappointed & my dogs suffering has been prolonged due to Dr. New and his negligence. Maybe he’s burnt out since veterinary care is so limited here, but there is zero compassion in what he does. Edited to add: Dr. New’s reply to this review is the most effort he has put into this entire situation. If he used a fraction of this effort on my dog in the first place, then she would be better by now."
"Utterly compassionless and borderline neglectful. Do not go to this establishment if you’re expecting, care and compassion because you will not find it here. Dr New is about as cold and caring as a pile of mud and about as helpful as one too. Their front staff/techs are godawful about passing on messages and returning calls. They’ll happily put you on a ten minute hold and don’t treat customers with the friendliness and care expected at a vet clinic. My girlfriend and I have been dealing with this mess for over 2 months trying to get our dog healthy. We were told at the very start of this whole debacle that a CT scan will most likely be needed. So why did it take over two months of us dealing with our injured dog ourselves and hounding them with calls to get them to send a referral for a scan? The answer is they don’t care. They got our $1600 for a fruitless exploratory surgery and didn’t mind offering a second one. Though as soon as we said no to the second exploratory we were left in the dark. They didn’t care that she’s had a wound that’s been draining for months, lost weight/muscle mass and developed a limp. It took us flying our dog to Wasilla and having the vet hospital there (shout-out to Tier 1 clinic) plead them till they finally realized they could just ask the other Doctor Since Dr. New was out with Covid for the past week. Two months of stress, calls and wasted time for them to finally ask another Doctor for the referral. So now we’re in Wasilla waiting on a specialist the week before Christmas. When we realistically should’ve had this done months ago. Does Dr New care or JVH care? Nope, they got their money. Not his problem anymore. On top of all that we just found out that we got charged for a culture of the wound but we were never shown the results and Tier 1 never got any in the referral leading us to believe that we got scammed. That’s JVH for you. Zero care, compassion or warmth. Happily takes your money and leaves you in the dark. No check up calls, no seeing if we need any pain meds or antibiotics or any care at all. If you have any doubts just read through the bad reviews. They can’t even be bothered to properly address the negative reviews, just calls them slander and wants them removed. Very immature and not at all deserving of the trust people put in them with their beloved pets. Save your time, energy and money and go to one of the other few respectable vets in Juneau. Heed from all the warnings and don’t fall into the trap we did."
"We have used them for about 3 years and have been pleased. This week my dog hurt his leg and they squeezed us in and got him relief."
"My dog passed away while in the care of Juneau vet Hospital. Taking Dax here will forever be the greatest regret of my life. I feel that they didn’t even take the time to get to know my dog. I was never asked questions about what medication he was on. I was never asked if he had eaten before his visit. When I went in to drop him off, they weren’t even sure which leg it was- they had asked me just an hour before his surgery which leg needed an operation. They did not want to see/talk to me before his surgery. It was all so rushed. Could it have made a difference in the outcome of this “routine” surgery? Maybe not, but I’d like to think it could have. Even after Dax passed, the report that was sent to the cremation service was incorrect. He was written down as being “grey”. Dax does not have a single spot of grey on him. It caused even more confusion and distress after his passing. He was treated like a number. So, because you all did not take the time to get to know Dax- please allow me to tell you more about him. Dax was known as the sweetest gentle giant. He would stick his lips out to accept a treat because he wouldn’t want to touch you with his teeth. He would howl when he was excited. He was the best dance partner and the greatest car ride passenger. Dax was so good with kids and I wanted so badly for him to be here and meet our new baby. Dax impacted a lot of lives in his 5 short years here on earth. So many people are grieving his death. He was such a good friend. Dax wasn’t just a dog- he was our whole world. And for all those considering Juneau Vet Hospital as either your primary vet or just coming in for a single thing to be done- please trust your instincts. If it doesn’t feel comfortable to you, don’t let them take your family member."
