"Dr Matthews came highly recommended by the Provider that I have worked for, for 24 years, so I referred my Mom here to get care. WORST MISTAKE EVER!!! Dr Matthews' nurse had to do a blood draw 3 times on 3 separate occasions because they kept losing the samples, or they ran the wrong test. So after a wrong diagnosis and 6 months on medication that did nothing but make her tired, she went for a second opinion to another Doctor. Needless to say, she will not be going back to Dr Matthews. She had seen him twice in that 6 months and always gets referred to his PA. My advice, go to another Doctor!! I would not even give him 1 star if I could."
"Dr Mathews seems like a great guy. When I first met him he was very personable and seemed interested in getting me a diagnosis and treatment. After my initial 2-3 visits we thought we had nailed down a diagnosis and treatment protocol, and after that I have only met with his PA and when the initial treatment plan didn't appear to be working I felt a lot less interest in getting me better. The office staff is all really nice, but I feel like I have to babysit them in order to get any progress. The front desk rarely answers the phone during business hours, and voicemails are returned maybe 30% of the time, but only after about a week. They have dropped the ball several times getting me on the medication I need resulting in about 6 months of lost time this year for treatment."
"I saw Dr. Mathews for a second opinion. I drove from Idaho and it was well worth it. Dr. Mathews has excellent bedside manner. He examined me instead of delegating this to mid-level providers. (I’ve heard he diagnosis and then the mid-levels do maintenance, which if true, is a brilliant setup.) He listened carefully to my history. I never felt rushed and he does a fine job explaining medical issues in lay terms. He explained how my “normal” (to the specialist in Idaho) blood tests were not normal, but with my history were indicative of rheumatoid disease. He ordered sensitive blood tests that had not been ordered by the first rheumatologist. I had additional X-rays and an ultrasound which were conveniently done in his office. His staff is delightful, both in person and over the phone."
"I work for Dr. Mathews, and felt the need to leave a review to help those who have been in his office as patients, and also those who are thinking about coming in to see him for the first time. Above all, Dr. Mathews is a wonderful, kind man with good integrity and an excellent bedside manner. Every decision that he makes he considers thoughtfully, and he always has the patient's best interest at heart. I've seen it time and time again. He sometimes cannot refill medications without the patient being seen by him or one of his Nurse Practitioners first, and that is simply because he is prohibited from doing so due to laws and regulations. He does anything and everything that he can to help every person who comes through his front door, and it is an honor working for him."
"I had been too several Rheumatologists before ending up with Dr. Mathews. Nobody had been able to diagnose me accurately and Dr. Mathews was the first to take the time. We had an appointment where we just talked and went through things for about 2 hours. At the end he told me what he thought I had and ordered some tests to confirm. He was right and I can't believe how awesome I have felt now that I am on the right medication. There are some complaints on here about the office staff but they have always been great to me. They all know my name and are excited to see me. Darcy Trotter was also able to help me find out I had severe sleep apnea, so instead of prescribing more pain killers he got me over to a sleep specialist that could solve my problems. I feel a million times better than I did when I first started going here 2 years ago."
