"Irving schoolhouse seems nice on the surface and also seems reasonably priced on the surface, but there are several issues... 1) they closed the hot tub/pool deck and grill area for renovations (the main amenities) and then offered new rentals at a lower rate but did not offer to reduce rents temporarily on existing units (despite several requests from tenants) 2) they are extremely slow with service calls and tend to "half fix" some things 3) there are so many small fees that the actual cost to live there is comparable or higher to nicer apartments in the area 4) we were promised a renter referral bonus and then when we referred someone they found a loophole to withhold this from us 5) leases are unreasonably expensive to get out of so you are completely trapped once you are in it (they wanted like 4 months of rent to get out of the lease) DO NOT LIVE HERE."
"Awesome new pool grilling set when opens in May. See pics. Would have 4 starred now except after 2 months maintenance still hasn’t come to check my gas log. See further below. Is convenient location and happy to have underground parking. My spot doesn’t leak from deck above although some do. The ParcelPending package boxes are very convenient instead of going thru all mailroom floor packages. The pool is great for fun hanging out. Alas downside living among pets. Several weeks ago a dog attacked me in the hallway. It nipped me on the chin. I even waited for it to come up the stairs. I called Animal Control. They were going to talk to the owner. Don’t know if they did. No updates. Last month I heard the owner praising there dog for protecting them and keeping them safe. Sounds like paranoia keeping an attack dog. It barks a lot too is a nuisance. What kind of guard dog barks at everyone even those on the public sidewalk? See pics. Two months ago had my gas log on just flip a switch. However I started feeling lightheaded and smelled something. So turned it off. It went away after a few hours however killed my appetite didn’t eat any dinner just had several seltzers, two ginger capsules, and a peptobismal tablet. I did look at the flue vent. Might have a blockage further up. See pic. Seems they might prioritize something that might be a health hazard to the occupant or guests. If I had had to go to the ER would have had to list the cause due to a gas log giving off fumes. Seems might have become a liability risk in that case. Then several months ago the pine bark beetles came back. The little devils get in behind the screens. See pics. Is a pain to check every time I open a window or balcony door. Once they get inside then I’m responsible per leasing agreement. They did come and spray balcony door. See pics. An earlier beef is motorcycles violating the noise ordinance quiet hours 10pm to 7am woke me twice weekdays one 147am. I asked if they would send out an email about the noise ordinance. They just asked if I knew who it was. They have cameras here but didn’t offer to see if any motorcycle left here at 147am. Can’t just single out someone with a motorcycle. Might not even be a resident. So appears left to our own devices. My rule for a device is that it only capture shared or public space such as entrances. Looks like motorcycles park for free. See pic. Have noticed a white one leaving the parking garage throttle maxed during day. Wonder nights too? My car was in the shop 2wks. Someone put a bed frame in my reserved parking space. Front office did notify me. Then they disposed of it. Two years ago downstarred to 3 stars even though is a great place. Several weeks ago setting up my living room AV system I checked the cable connection jack isn't even hooked up just a cable pass through. Looks like I'll have to pay Comcast to run a cable. Isn't listed as an amenity so unlikely owner will fix. Likely has been that way. Is also likely why Comcast had to run a cable from my bedroom to the dining area to use for work from home. That jack was dead too. Have to wonder what else. When I moved in 2 years ago someone was grilling on their balcony a fire hazard was smoking so bad the neighbor downstairs from the grillers called security. However is annoying lots of monthly fleas as I call little fees. Trash, sewer, water, property tax, facilities, and flea billing are billed separately amounts to extra $100 a month. Then they itemize other fees in the rent such as washer and dryer but are not optional. I take my laundry to wash & fold every 6 weeks have enough so costs me $4.50 a week. Is not worth paying $50 a month for a washer and dryer. Moreover the washer is very noisy had to test make sure it works. The fridge runs a lot adding to the AC bill. A few minor quirks too. The breakfast bar only has a 2-3/4 inch overhang. Useless with a barstool unless have parallel. Is ok if awkward for just one person. The corner bedroom is poorly insulated. During a winter windstorm actually felt a draft from east facing small window."
"Do not rent here! We went from an 8 month lease and we’re considering going month to month… They wanted to increase our rent by $700/month. We left the place spotless upon moving out and they want to charge us $150 cleaning fee, $80 repair fee (after the maintenance guy said we are good to hang pictures and the holes will be taken care of). They make up fees after moving out so that you don’t get your deposit back. It is a 60 day notice required to move out, which makes it very difficult to find a new place to move into as most landlords/owners don’t want to wait 2 months to have you move in- (Utah State Law is 30 days) They have made it 60 to make it more difficult for you to move out. They say the apartments are renovated but they are half renovated, bathrooms are still with dingy tubs and showers. The maintenance staff are very kind and great, however, the finishing touches on the renovations could use a little extra finesse. The apartments are old construction and are very noisy from neighbours above. There are better options for where you can give your money to. Lots of attitude from the manager, Vanessa. Bad experience. Stay away!"
"I wish it was an option to give negative stars. Irving Schoolhouse Apartments should not ever be spoken in the same sentence as stars or anything positive at all. They are out to get you. You move into a filthy apartment even after paying a cleaning fee… then when you move out you leave it spotless and much better than how you found it and they have the audacity to not give your security deposit back and instead charge you and take you to collections over nothing. All they want is your money and strive to make you miserable."
"Outdated and poorly managed complex charging luxury prices. Have had repeated issues with flooding and water damage, and it takes multiple follow-ups to get a visit from maintenance. This is in an apartment going for $2,000/month. There are much nicer apartments in Sugarhouse for the same rent."
