"I reached out to Chenoa in 2023 so I could prepare and do the right things in 2024 to put my down payment on my forever home. Well today was not a good day...at all. This is why: I reached out over a year ago and followed all the recommendations. Well today I was told I still do not qualify for the Chenoa Fund. I submitted tax returns for 2 years and I was told I don't qualify because in order to get down payment assistance, I need not two, but three years of tax returns. I was asked how much money I had saved and I was told the money I saved is not enough for any alternative financing. I was officially told that I could not qualify for a mortgage even though I did all the right things. I was told "maybe next year" because then I will have 3 years of tax returns. The level of trust is already gone. Why? I came to a licensed Chenoa mortgage person for help. I followed their advice to the letter and I still was told I still do not qualify for a new build until 2025. When I specifically reached out to Chenoa a year before. In some ways I agree that the hype of "my race and being a woman," will hinder me when applying for a mortgage. UPDATE: I wrote a very detailed review and I do not see it published. My update for today is still horrible. The mortgage person literally told me I could get approved for the same zip code I am already in. After communicating with the mortgage broker a year again and implemented a plan of action. This was a horrible experience and I am glad that I found out."
"The "first time home buying" experience was really emotional and stressful, but Chenoa made us feel so supported. I didn't really expect that from a Mortgage company but I'm happy to be wrong. Their follow up calls and emails with tips for new homeowners helped us so much as we "faked it till we made it" and grew into the role of taking care of a house and all the facets of finances that represents. Kinda wish they were our main mortgage company and not just the folks with the second mortgage/down payment assistance."
"I feel that I was scammed by this program. I was assured that I was enrolled in a program where after two years of repayment my down payment assistance loan would be forgiven. When I contacted Chenoa, I was informed that I was enrolled in a different program and would have to repay the down payment loan in full. If I would have known that, I would have opted for another program where the loan is absolutely forgiven. Now I am stuck repaying this second mortgage for the down payment assistance although I was assured that after two years of on time payments, it would be forgiven. Be warned…it is not down payment assistance at all. The down payment assistance is really a second mortgage!"
"I’m so incredibly grateful for the Cheona Fund without them I would never have been able to buy my house. I also really loved they helped with financial wellness and how to manage budget so you don’t fall behind on payments. I hope in the future I can give back to the Chenoa fund in some way. Sometimes you need support to feel like someone believes in you and they were just that. As a single woman who has worked hard to get where I am today and I’m honored to say Chenoa was there with me."
"Chenoa has been very helpful through the home buying process and beyond. They regularly check in with me through various scheduled phone calls just to make sure things are still going well. They also answer additional questions quickly and professionally, even when I call outside of our regular calls. They're great and super helpful! I wish I could say the same about the lending company... But no problems with Chenoa :)"
