"The doctor has no bedside manner. Had no tact for children. I think he dislikes working with kids. I really don’t want to have to go back. They refill prescription fast and I’m very grateful for that."
"Dr. Karmazin was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and explained things thoroughly. However, I didn’t care for his bedside manner, which should be particularly important with pediatrics. The very first thing he said was “last time I saw you was three years ago and at that time, I told you to come back in 6 months.” At the time, my son was crying and I didn’t need guilt or judgment. My son also has a lot of mental health concerns and had a bad day at school and so he was sobbing and was embarrassed and didn’t want to look at the doctor. Instead of showing compassion, the doctor said, “I need you to look at me and listen, we are not here to talk about what happened at school, we are here to talk about your growth”. He should have said, I am so sorry you are having a rough day. What happened? Then my child would have likely turned around and told him someone bullied him and then he would have cooperated better with the exam."
"Ben (the “diabetes educator”) is WONDERFUL and the rest of the staff was fine, but Dr. Karmazin was not as patient and kind with my newly-diagnosed T1D 12-year-old son as I’d expect from a pediatric specialist, or with me as his mom. My son is a bit quirky, possibly undiagnosed ASD, and Dr. Karmazin seemed openly annoyed that he isn’t the ideal super-easy neurotypical child. He also responded to me in a somewhat critical way when I explained that to avoid lows, I’d been knocking a couple units off carb count doses at mealtimes due to lower-than-expected blood sugar numbers. I was expecting a “good job!” but got a “um, we can’t do that. Do you want me to change his lantus dose?” …what?!? 1) YOU’RE the doctor. 2) I was avoiding lows! Scary, dangerous, no-bueno lows! I’m an exhausted, overwhelmed mom trying to help her child cope with a new, life-altering reality. It was our first appointment with Dr. Karmazin. It wasn’t so bad that I won’t go back to him - but he could use some practice having empathy for and patience with the kids and parents he services."
"Dr. Karmazin was very kind and easy to talk to. He clearly explained my child's situation and condition and presented the available courses of treatment. He asked for my input, which I appreciated. He was very good with my child and was thorough in his examination. I felt like we were getting the right specialized care, and I look forward to working with him in the future. The staff was really great to work with too and my wait time was just minutes."
"I don't typically write reviews so that is saying something in itself. We have been coming here for two years and my last visit was the final straw. I have stayed at this office because of our incredible nurse. Ben is incredible and has been a phenomenal resource during our time at this office. Again, the reason we stayed for so long. Dr. Karmazin on the other hand needs a lot of help with his bedside manner. At one appointment he asked if we were getting the Covid shot or flu shot and I said no kindly to both his relapse was "If you were human you would do it" I was so shocked I had no words back to him but left with a bad taste in my mouth. During the last 3 visits, we waited over an hour to be seen. This time I said how we waited so long and he told me "No one is telling you to stay here you can find a new place to go." On top of his terrible communication skills, he just isn't a great diabetes doctor in general. He doesn't care to get the know the kids he is treating. I've seen a lot of doctors and I would not recommend Dr. Karmazin to any of my closest friends or family."
