"My son Parker was inpatient at Copper Hills for a year. When we arrived the director told us that we were dropping off a boy but he would send us home a man, he made true on his promise. It was the toughest year for all of us and Covid-19 pandemic started in the middle of his stay which was terrifying as a parent however, the staff was excellent at answering questions and reassuring us. He is amazing and doing the "impossible" he graduates high school next year!! Thank you Copper Hills thank you for saving my family!!"
"It now seems that that there is more than meets the eye. This place is not what you think it is, and I want to know, where the rest of my daughter’s clothes are, when we picked her up? I did not know that we were buying socks for the staff, when we brought them in wrong. Also, where is my daughter’s medicines that are expensive, those are not yours to keep. I Also loved how you kicked my daughter out 4 hrs early for her flight, I want answers!! You have our information, oh and thank you for the emergency line, if there is an emergency GOOD Luck getting through!! There is none!"
"Most staff here were very nice, but I found this place was very unhygienic and unstable in schedule, I couldn't wash my laundry for 3 weeks and there were many times where I got food poisoning. Seeing residents acting out gave me more PTSD flashbacks and now give me everyday triggers. the only joy I got here were the events, and mostly caused more injuries. I was there for 4 months, I don't recommend, because I mostly don't want people to go to any residential in general, but a last resort."
"A big thank you to Rhett for always working with our daughter and our family. We are happy to have our daughter back home. I always give 4 stars when I’m happy with services, because there’s always room for improvement."
"My daughter was sent here from San Diego and we had a love hate relationship with copper hills. First let me say, I am that parent that questions everything and needs to make sure everything is ok. Reading the reviews I was a very scared to send my daughter here, but out of all the other places tricare was going to send her this place was at the top of the list despite the reviews. Intake was very smooth and up front about everything, they paid for my flight there and back so I could accompany my daugher. Then that is when things start to go down hill. The first month was hell for both of us. Only being able to talk to my kid for 15 mins because it took 5 minutes to get her( which we learned how to deal with that, she just was by the phone close to the time I would call and I would start to call a few minutes before my schedule time ). Hearing her cry she wants to come home, she was being bullied and called names because of her weight made me want to come get her but I was told trust the process. She became more depressed that month and I couldn’t figure out why, even her therapist Trina couldn’t figure out why. She received weekly visits from my cousins to help and they even reported she was more depressed. I came out for my first weekend visit and expressed my concerns with everyone. Finally had our first meeting with everyone and looked over her medication chart and they were giving my child DOUBLE the dose of her depression meds which was making her worse. It took a week to get a call back from nursing director which was unacceptable and I started making some noise. Also they had switched her thyroid meds to generic even thought I sent her brand name medication which was also causing major issues. Once the medication issue was taken care of and she was starting to come back to normal, she was attacked by to different girls. One was because of differences and my daughter had her part in it but the second time the next day she did not. I wanted to come get her and my daughter did ask to press charges and nothing was done. Once she started getting her outings things started to get better. Family still came Weekly to visit her and I came monthly to visit. Phones calls increased because of everything, Trina was a god send to us and she allowed her to call me 10 Minutes weekly so talking to her every other day helped and the visits. Schooling there was good, I wish that she’s would have kept the skills when she came back but that’s a different story. They helped with the discharge plan back to San Diego and paid for me to come get her. Pros: they do help, some staff caring and goes out of the way Cons: med errors, put notes where I could read “ parent states we are not taking care of child “ oh let me tell you how mad I was to read that and then to have my concerns validated when my child was being over dose and no one caught it !!!! Child came back with more ptsd then I sent her there with, All in all I think it was a good experience for all of us but something I will never do again."
