"Very friendly staff. Nice and clean facilities. Stressful for animal and owner since you meet one of the staff in the hall (together with all other patients with or without their animal). You explain the symptoms and off they go with your pet. The "nurse" explains to the vet, and I am sure some of the important details get lost on the way. For vaccines and rutine visits, they are great, but for bigger injuries or "unknown" causes, I would see a specialist. Have had 3 bad experiences over the last 2 years. 1) Thought my dog had stepped on something and asked the vet to check her paw for grass, torns, insect bites, etc. When I picked the dog up, the vet had cut open one toe from the top. When I asked if they by opening the toe from the top would be able to see if she stepped on a spike or on other things that could be stuck in the paw, the answer was no!!! 2) Two of my dogs had been playing, and one ran the other over. He started limping, and I wanted the vet to check the hip for damage. Got a diagnosis of arthritis. I had to argue why I wanted a referral to a clinic specialist in arthritis. They had a vet (apx 70 years old) that could come to the clinic and litterly cut off the hip socket. I insisted on a referral to another clinic, and oh boy, I'm glad for that. The dog didn't have any signs of arthritis in the hips. 3) One dog got a cut in the skin on the side of the thigh. They agreed to see us the same day, but the vet stapled the wound... There was no bandage to keep it in place or keep it clean. The stitches came off the same day, and we made an appointment to another vet that sewed the wound together and covered it up to prevent infection. I will use VCA Callfield for vaccines and minor checkups. For unknown sickness or injuries, I will find other clinics."
"My kitten was injured earlier this morning and they were the only clinic in town that accepted her as a walk-in on super short notice despite her not being a patient with them. The staff was very caring on the phone as I explained what happened and they were able to get her in to be seen as soon we got there. Thank you to the VCA team for helping us and for making sure our kitten was okay."
"Ellie is my 5 year old morkie. Two weeks ago today (8/7) she had a seizure or I thought she did. That next day I took her to VCA. Come to find out she had a mild case of anemia and her platelets were extremely low (I think the number was 15 or 17k) her red count was also low and white count high. The Dr. at the time (can't remember her name, sorry) she found out that Ellie has an autoimmune disorder that would attack her blood cells. They put her on meds to slow down her immune system so her body can start healing. That Thursday she was not looking any better so I booked another appointment for that friday (8/11) morning. This is when Dr. Spears examine Ellie. Dr. Spears ordered another blood test and she was in far worse condition. Her red count was 19% (that's low) normal is 30 to 50% ish. So, Dr. Spears increased her meds and added another. We were hoping this would kick in throughout the coming weekend. Ellie was scheduled for another blood test that coming Monday (8/14) to check her red count. This was the weekend I thought my baby girl was going to pass. That Sunday (8/13) morning around 3am Ellie was passed out in the middle of my hallway. She was motionless and breathing shallow. All I could do was to make her as comfortable as possible and to make sure she knew I was with her. Ellie fought through and made it to the vet that Monday (8/14) Dr. Spears did her red count test and it came back dangerously low at 13% down from 19% the Friday before. This is when decisions needed to be made. Dr. Spears recommend a blood transfusion for Ellie. This was the best possible way for Ellie to have a positive outcome. So, that Monday I left my girl in VCAs hands and they would keep her over night after the blood transfusion. Tuesday 8/15, Ellie was full of life and ready to fight her battle to being a healthy dog again. Her red count was 33% up from 13% tge day before, and Dr. Spears wanted to do another blood test that coming Friday (8/18) to see if her procedure and meds worked. So, that friday we received great news, her red count was 37%. Dr. Spears was thrilled and I was as well. He wanted to do one more blood test that coming Monday (8/21) to make sure everything stays looking good over the weekend. Today (8/21) Ellies red count is 42%. Dr. Spears feels next week I can lower Ellies meds and make one more blood test 2 weeks from today and if everything looks good Ellie will be taken off her meds and be a healthy happy pup again. Sorry this was so long but really wanted to share how VCA callfield animal hospital took care of my baby girl. I have to give the biggest thanks to Dr. Spears for his honesty and professionalism on how he treated Ellies condition. Ellie wanted to live and VCA gave her that chance and we couldn't be more grateful. Thank You VCA you saved my dogs life!"
"We had to put our 13 year old yorkie to sleep yesterday. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to help me cope with it. They let me hold my baby till the bitter end. They let me say my last goodbye alone with him. I will never forget the caring and passionate people at the clinic. God bless you! Kismo passed over the rainbow bridge peacefully thanks to you!"
"I love taking my two dogs to VCA and more importantly, my dogs love it too. The staff is always super nice and accommodating and I really appreciate that they seem genuinely happy to see my babies. They’re not the cheapest but you definitely get what you pay for! They are very responsive, caring, and work around my schedule. I’ve even called for same day appointments on my lunch break and they find time to squeeze me in. We appreciate all the time and care you’ve given us!"
