Reviews of Sunrise Apartments
"I had a glowing review on here for years, and now am changing it. We moved here in 2017 and stayed for two years. Everything was great, but in June of 2019 we told Diane and Laurinda (a previous manager) we were moving at the end of August. They said they don’t have the paperwork for us to sign in order for us to leave properly but that they would call us in when it was ready. We never heard a word, and when it was time to move they acted all shocked that we were moving. We gave them almost three months notice. Even the maintenance man Humberto knew we were moving because he supplied us paint to paint over the rooms they allowed us to paint, and we weren’t the ones who initially told Humberto we were moving. The office did. We loved everything there, but Diane was apparently pitting Laurinda against my wife. My wife told Diane one day that there was a broken bottle by the stairway. Later on Laurinda asked my wife why she said she saw her daughter break the bottle. My wife had no idea what she was talking about. Although a lot of folks knew that her daughter had an apartment there and was getting drunk and loud. That’s what Laurinda even told us in the past. She actually confided that to us because we were neighborly and would come to the office and chat sometimes. Short story long, Diane is apparently not a kind person, and Laurinda got promoted to a different complex when we were leaving. She apparently has her own problems that bleed over into her work. They took our deposit and it went to collections, and a lady at Alvarado management who owns this place would not listen to me about how none of this being our fault. She just plainly told me, the law is on their side. I’ve lived in four separate places since being married for the last 13 years, and we always left the place better than when we moved in. New paint, expensive wood blinds, fencing, gardening, etc. and in my opinion, when you rent from a company instead of an invested individual in their own property, the corporate attitude will eventually show its head. My wife and I have glowing references despite the failure of Sunrise Apartments and Alvarado management. I’m happy that our pit bull had a home with us for the six weeks he lived after moving there, and I was happy the entire time there, but things were changing, and more skuzzy folks were moving in. The most redeemable part of the whole place is Humberto the maintence man. He is really kind and it shows. You get 5 stars Humberto."
"I lived there a few years ago. Diane is rude, abrasive and downright unprofessional. I left the maintenance man several of my dishes, pans and things when I moved out, I thought he could use because he was very friendly. They kept my security deposit and said it was because they had to clean from the things I left in the apt for the maintenance man. What a joke! Never took complaints seriously."
"Just an average apartment complex, no fancy amenities or upgraded appliances. One of the windows in the bedrooms had a gap in it and it would produce a horrible whistling noise and keep me up during windy nights. The maintenance guy, Humberto, was incredibly nice and always timely with requests. However, this place advertises itself as pet friendly and that "Pets are Welcome Here" but this is untrue. I got a puppy 9 months into my lease and had an ESA letter from my doctor. Diane said the ESA Letter only waived the pet fees, and does not allow for any rule changes, which is untrue. I went back to the office and spoke with Cynthia and she gave me a Reasonable Accommodation request form. After I filled this out and returned it, I was informed that I would not be able to have the dog on the property until the request was approved. Luckily, I have amazing friends that let me and my dog stay with them while this got sorted out. I received a letter from Shelley Harper (property manager) a few days later that did not approve or deny my reasonable accommodation request. What I thought would be a 2 week wait to see if I could have my dog on the property turned into a 6 week nightmare filled with phone calls, lots of research into the Fair Housing Act, and not being able to live in my apartment with my dog. As someone who already does not handle stress well, this almost sent me over the edge. I contacted a friend who is a lawyer and they suggested I send in a second accommodation request that was more specific. This request was approved and my puppy and I were able to be in the apartment for the last 2.5 months of my lease. After this, Diane was rude and standoffish towards me when I came into the office. I obviously did not renew my lease. If I had the time, energy, or dealt with stress better, I would go through the hassle of filing a complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, but this review will have to do."
"By far the worst place I've ever had to deal with. Long story short it goes like this, me and my partner decided to by a house, the deal fell through and left the two of us scrambling to find a place to live. So, we decided to apply here, they're cheap, located close to my current residence and very pet friendly. to good to be true! Dealing with Cynthia was a pleasant experience for the most part however, Diane was quite the opposite. Me and my partner submitted our applications, crossed all the T's and dotted all the I's. now, rest assured during the process we felt like we we're being screened for the NSA. they called EVERYONE on our applications, mothers, fathers, co-workers, ect. There was a 5 month gap in my rental history in which I resided with a former freind whom I no longer speak to. They wanted me to call him and have him verify I lived there? Mind you, this has NEVER been a problem with any previous applications. When my partner dropped off the proof of vaccinations Diane practically interrogated my parter, asking where we met, how long we've been together, asked if we had friends along with other extremely personal questions that quite frankly made my parter feel extremely uncomfortable. When she asked if we had friends, my partner replied, "No we really don't" Which is true. We're a very introverted couple and very selective with who we hang around. Diane very snarkly replied, " So you're telling me you've lived here your whole life and don't have any friends!?" Just when we thought it was over, we were denied. Reason Being, I was late on a rent payment from a previous residence from over a year ago. Again, this has NEVER been an issue with any applications. I even payed the late fee's no questions asked. Since then, I've never been late again. However, my partner was denied because she didnt meet the 1.5x rent requirment. However, I alone make the rent payment in one week! If you were to combine our incomes we would quintuple the rent requirement for income! In conclusion, I will be filing a formal complaint with the proper channels. I had high hopes, and wish it would have worked out."
