"I'll start out by saying the therapist we had wasn't the problem. She was very direct and was always available to texts and phone calls. Now, with that out of the way, the problem Southwest Family Guidance has is their methodology and idealogy. To sum it up... if your child has a problem with hitting and they hit say 10 times a week. At the end of 6 months if that child is now hitting 9 times a week... they consider that a success, they'll discharge, and they'll give you a plan of how to continue going forward. That is just plain stupid and is just manufacturing "success stories" for grants and investors. Let me tell you about my situation. My ex-wife set this therapy up for our teenage daughter who is having behavioral issues. My ex quickly found out that MST is built around changing parenting behaviors to better handle the child... not changing the child's behavior. Well, my ex is NEVER the problem... so she basically made therapy as difficult as possible and followed VERY few ideas the therapist recommended. It is important to note that in our case, the judge signed an order stating my ex MUST follow ANY recommendation of a medical provider. When this was brought up and used against my ex by the therapist, my ex basically told her to make her. When I asked for the therapist to write something stating she wasn't following recommendations... I was informed Southwest Family WILL NOT write anything down for court. Ok... fine... then you're worthless. Basically the model is built around parents who WANT to change. If you have a naraccist who blameshifts and is SO entitled they think they're NEVER the problem... this therapy ain't for you! In the end... I'd say Southwest Family Guidance is just an insurance biller. Moving pieces from this side of the board to that side of the board, and billing hours to insurance companies to make sure everyone has a job. The therapy is VERY expensive... and the whole ideology is about setting boundaries and sticking to them. Nothing groundbreaking here... nothing special... just set boundaries and stick to them. I just gave you a free master class in MST from SWFGCI. Is it worth the money or your time? No... it is not."
