"I lived at Winbro circa 2003-2013, and it was just $300 a month. Sad that it’s gone up. Location is fantastic, very close to downtown and bus lines. No A/C but otherwise I never had a problem. There were a few homeless people at the church next door but at that time I could take the trash out by myself with no problems. I would say the biggest problem was parking. And that wasn’t bad. It was owned then by a different management company it sounds like. It was once a great deal. Great closet space, 2 large closets with a built in dresser. Historical features, it originally had an ironing board that folded up into the wall and a little door to have milk and butter delivered in."
"Some of the things I liked about living here were that the location was awesome. Walking distance to great spots and very scooter/bikeable too. There was unlimited hot water in the shower. The building is over a 100 years old and has real character. The building residents are generally pretty cool Some cons of living here were. My unit was very small and had an old fashioned gas stove with 3 unusually large pilot lights. My apartment smelled of gas and would get super hot from essentially having the stove running on low all the time. I could warm food etc without ever turning the stove knobs. Breathing in the Carbon Monoxide 24/7 made me feel sick especially after breathing in the fumes all night. Leaving a window open at night wasnt an option due to the urban environment being so noisy. The units are packed pretty tightly together. Each time someone enters the building they need to open and close several heavy steel doors and some people are just natural door slammers. I never once got a good nights sleep because of all the door slamming. Most building activity seems to happen between 11pm-3am. The management Team is below average. Not the worst on the planet but like a 4/10. The maintenance staff had a key to my apartment and would enter my place without notice or permission about once a month. I would just come home and find someone had left a new building key on my table etc. The only door in my apartment that closed properly was the front door. The bathroom and closet door did not close all the way. I just had to sort of wedge the doors against the frame to keep them closed. The building is located just south of an office building that has windows placed at the exact same height so if you have an apartment on the north side of winbro you can look into the office building and they can look into your apartment. The valet trash service was never on time. When I first moved in I left my trash can in the hall for pick up for like 3 weeks and nobody ever took it. I started just taking my trash to the dumpster out back myself. There is not any recycling available. I really didnt mind most of the cons about living at Winbro I thought it was kind of fun. The reason I moved was the insane amount of carbon monoxide from the stove and inability to sleep because of constant door slamming. There is a genuine health hazard there."
"Worst place I have ever lived without a doubt. *Bed Bugs *Mice *Gas Leaks *Randomly having your unit torn apart and not put back together *Unresponsive maintenance/management *no A/C & no window units allowed - VERY LOUD radiators that sometimes work *no mail room & packages are stolen constantly *laundry machines are barely working/overpriced/regularly eat change. Laundry room is regularly trashed by upset tenants. *someone entered my unit without permission while I was on vacation *Old rickety doors with doorknobs that regularly just fall out of the door *Thin walls *Original kitchen sinks from early 1900s construction; next to no water pressure and they regularly become clogged to the point of malfunction *kept my security deposit despite leaving the unit in much better condition than I found it *Apartment was filthy (floor was not even swept) and the stove was leaking gas the day I moved in *lots of homelessness directly in the adjacent alleys to entrances. Super unsafe at night. *Not allowed to take out your own trash (in part due to how thick the homelessness is by the dumpsters out back.) They have a service to collect trashchans from the hall, but it's not consistent, so the halls regularly smell like trash (especially when it's hot.) There was a crockpot left in the hall to mold for over two weeks at one point. I definitely recommend avoiding this building as well as any others managed by Boutique or Wheelhouse apartments. Check both management companies out on the better business bureau and you'll quickly identify a trend...."
"I’ve now lived here for almost 2 years and wanted to add a new review to my original. I now rate this building 5-stars. (Latest Review) It’s an old building, you’ll probably run into some issues but maintenance will fix those right away, you just need to be proactive. This isn’t a luxury apartment and they don’t charge you luxury apartment rates. Great location. The water is a little bit murky, get a water filter, they actually give them out for free. Sure Colfax is dangerous, but it’s 2 blocks away. Don’t go walking that way at 1am in the morning. Lots of homeless it’s kind of a shame, was chased by a homeless man back to my apartment once as he was threatening me and calling me names (not sure why..). That’s Denver for you. (First review) The original review remains below, however, I feel an update is necessary. Each time I have submitted a maintenance request including for the cockroach issue listed below, the maintenance team comes almost immediately. The cockroach issue resolved itself within days of me listing the review, because I filed a request and the maintenance team immediately came (twice) and performed two applications of pesticides. The break-in was largely due to leaving the window unlocked, and while it is still early into my rent, I feel at least some degree of comfort as far as break ins by locking my window and having the maintenance team install screens over them. The first week I moved in here, my apartment was broken into and my things were stolen. This apartment building is literally cockroach infested. If they told me it was unsafe and had cockroaches there’s no chance I would have moved in, now I’m counting down the days until my lease is up. Do not make my mistake and be lured in by the cheap rent!!"
"Tiny apartment for nearly $1000 a month, no AC, washer or dryer. Laundry room always has problems with machines, have lost countless dollars on broken machines that barely clean your clothes. Always garbage outside and in the alley, and the church next door has street people yelling at all hours of the night. The internet will sometimes be broken because the cabling is a mess and the coax cables will be run over by a garbage truck. Water goes down for repairs for hours on end bi monthly, and did I mention there's no air conditioning? Moving in July and I couldn't be happier to not renew this lease. Screw Winbro, screw boutique apartments, and screw whoever is in charge of the laundry room in particular."
