"Theatreworks production of “The Half Life of Marie Curie” is a two woman play with the caliber of an award-winning Broadway production. The play, staring Prentiss Benjamin and Leslie O’Carroll as Marie Curie and Hertha Ayrton respectively, chronicles the lives of two academics at the dawn of the European industrial revolution at a time when women were considered little more than property having no serious consideration for a seat alongside their award-winning male counterparts. Brilliantly written by Lauren Gunderson, the audience is transported through a complex tapestry of cutting- edge scientific research, heretical feminism, hypocritical morals and the resulting judgement of infidelity born by women and celebrated by men of power and stature. From the first lines of the first act, he two actors draw us into a cerebral an emotional juxtaposition of femininity, academics and motherhood within the context of a paternal hierarchy. The competency and breadth of the actors to weave a convincing labyrinth of events and emotions into a supportive and loving relationship spanning their lifetimes is manifestly apparent. If you have a shadow of a chance to see this production before it leaves the area, you will not regret a moment. It is playing at the ENT Theatre on N. Nevada Ave until April 2nd.
