"I have been a patient here for over 40 years and it is a dangerous place for people with diabetes. Half of the problems people have dealing with diabetes relate to mental health issues and this place has no idea how to address these problems. They actually make the problem worse. They refuse to offer referrals regarding this issue. They will not help you. They pretend this issue is not even a thing, but it is. I was told that “there is no research relating to diabetes and mental health.” That is a lie. This place treats bodies, like factory workers with a conveyor belt. They don’t have the foggiest idea about people. Find someplace else if your health is of any value to you."
"I can’t believe after being diagnosed 19 years ago at the Barbara Davis Center, I am here giving them a 1 star review on my way out the door. I know a lot of us grew up with Octavia, the lady who does our vitals. Bless her heart, she is amazing. Kelly was always great too and maybe a few others I’m assuming have left. As for the rest, shame on the management, and rest of the “care” team to allow such NEGLIGENCE regarding our medical care. From ridiculously long response times (if they even answer at all), to refusing to refill medications, send prior authorizations, and correspond with insurance, pharmacies, other facilities, and doctors. I could go on and on. As I said. Negligent. We’re talking about life saving medications us type 1s will die without. Maybe they should really read their review and reflect. It should not take weeks, or months to be able to get issues resolved nearly EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I wouldn’t recommend the BDC to anyone. Go else where if you don’t want to deal with the headache and stress as a diabetic that already has enough to deal with because of their illness."
"This place should be sued for what they did to my sister. She has been going there for years since she was a child. Last year she found out she has ESRD. Barbara Davis center failed to refer her to a kidney doctor 4 years ago when they tested her kidney and they were only working at 50%. They failed to inform her that her kidney were failing and now it’s too late. Now she is on dialysis almost everyday until she get a kidney. It’s disgusting to see a healthcare organization dismiss the seriousness of her condition and not even inform the patient. They failed her and I’m sure they have failed others."
"I really want to love this place again! BDC was the Gold Standard of Type 1 Diabetes care when I was kid. I never had the privilege of being seen there until I became an adult and jumped at the opportunity once they started providing adult care. I've been a patient for many years now. No, Im not the perfect diabetic but by far not the worst even though Im treated as if I am. My Dr is very cold, rushes through my appointments and doesn't seem to care to listen. I have to ask about treatments and other diabetic management options I learn about on my own. If I dont ask, she wont offer up the education. When I brought this to her attention, she told me I could just see someone else because she doesnt have enough time in the day to offer a more caring experience because she has other patients she has to see. I understand her perspective but that response was beyond inappropriate. At one point, I left 3 different messages over 3 weeks regarding a prior auth request on the Diabetic Educator line and no one ever called me back. They couldnt explain why, but did ultimately get it worked out to which I was grateful for. The person that sets appointments is very dry and unwelcoming over the phone. Not saying everyone has to give service with a smile on each call, but some level of kindness would be beneficial since she is represents the beginning of the patient experience. Everything Ive mentioned costs ZERO money to fix! Its just a matter of shifting the staffs energy and attitudes to embrace a positive and understanding experiences for their patients. I dont know what happened to the BDC but I do hope the Adult side can return to providing its quality of care and service that it was once renowned for having not long ago. BDC is and always serve as the hub of Diabetic care, education and research. Please treat those of us with this terrible disease with kindness. We appreciate all you do."
"I am very disappointed with the adult clinic. My daughter has been a type 1 since she was 6 and is now 16. She has always seen the pediatric clinic and they are wonderful. When I got diagnosed at 39 I figured I would be seen here too. Well big mistake! The Dr’s in the adult clinic do not listen. I’ve seen two now and was told completely different things by both. The Dr I would like to see, the receptionist told me once I was initially seen I could schedule with him. After my initial visit which was a terrible experience, I was then told he’s too far out or now he’s not excepting new pts. The drs I have seen don’t listen and both told me totally different things about my diabetes. My blood sugars have been way worse since starting at this clinic.I was also told at my first visit that I could possibly do a study to help try and preserve my beta cells. I had got an initial phone call regarding the studies I would qualify for, was told I would be followed up with regarding these and then never was. The communication here is terrible. Everyone seems like they are on a different page. Does not seem knowledgeable about the disease process or treatment. I am just very disappointed in the adult clinic here since we have always had such a great experience with the pediatric clinic. I will be looking for a new endocrinologist closer to where I live that is hopefully more helpful. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone."
